Mac Ledge (94 out of 100)
This rare Macintosh offering from Sierra On-Line has everything going for it: great replay value, addictive and very realistic arcade game-play, and nice on-line support. It's too bad Sierra doesn't offer more games for the Mac platform. In any case, this title is sure to please any pinball gamer or arcade "junkie" (like me) who spent way too many quarters on pinball and other games in the '80's.

If youâre unfamiliar with pinball, expert help in the form of male and female voices direct you by ordering âFollow that comet, soldier!â and âGet those dozers!â And if thatâs not enough, it has one of the best online help manuals built directly into the game itself. The simple design is similar to a World Wide Web site, complete with hypertext links and explanations on the tables and their respective and bonuses. Even if youâre an expert, I highly recommend checking this out. 3-D Ultra Pinball, plain and simple, is one of those games youâll never get sick of. The graphics and painstaking details are spectacular additions to the traditional platform. Ultra Pinball is guaranteed to send both kids and adults alike to Pinballaholics Anonymous. See you all at the meetings.

Except for the crashing problem, this game is very enjoyable.

The marketing hype says "The closest thing you can get to downloading an actual pinball machine." Not! Although sounds are good and graphics decent, the physics are not so good! The ball occasionally rolls over obstacles, and the animation tends to be jerky. It isn't critically poor, just enough to give a feeling that it just isn't quite right. To make matters worse, I've found the game to be pretty buggy in other respects. For example, it tends to crash when displaying high scores. It would be unfair to call the game poor, but it could use some refining.
