One, The (95 out of 100) (95%)

Paradroid 90 is as much a tactical experience as it is an arcade game, and trigger-happy blasters are going to find themselves in trouble if they don't apply some brain power. That said, even the most experienced tacticians are as good as dead if they can't hold their own in a firefight! It's this near-perfect balance between action and strategy coupled with the believable intelligence of the droids that makes Paradroid 90 so captivating. And with five increasingly dangerous ships to complete you should be under its influence for quite some time...

Computer and Video Games (CVG) (93 out of 100) (93%)

Apart from one or two upgrading tweaks and apparently more intelligent enemy robots the action is pretty much the same as the C64 version, and that is by no meant bad. Amiga owners have been voicing their concern over the toss of multi-directional movement, but the game certainly doesn't miss that at all, and the vertical deck scrolling is fine. Overall, then, a brilliant translation, destined to be just as much a classic as the C64 version was.

Games Machine, The (UK) (91 out of 100) (91%)

One of the most interesting features of Paradroid '90 is its line-of-sight rule. If something's between you and another robot, be it bulkhead, door or crate, you can't see it. Only if the door opens or you move from behind the crate, or whatever, can you see it. This adds atmosphere and some very real tension, especially when you know there's just one or two powerful droids left wandering around, it's a major part of the unique, addictive Paradroid experience that 16-bit owners can now enjoy.

Zzap! (90 out of 100) (90%)

Paradroid ‘90 is a brilliant conversion, superbly capturing the essence of the original and playing extremely well. Once you get into the game you do not really mind the lack of horizontal scroll. In effect you have got two games in one with the transfer mode on/off toggle; the game is better with the transfer option as it allows for more tactical play. Five ships may not seem a lot but it is difficult enough coping with one deck, let alone one ship.

Amiga Format (88 out of 100) (88%)

On the eight bit machines it has long been considered a classic game but now, with the extra power of the Amiga, new life has been injected into the game. The pace is more frantic, the game is bigger and the look is more polished, but all the gameplay that made the original a hit has been retained.

Your Amiga (85 out of 100) (85%)

I really enjoyed Paradroid when it was released back In 1985, but this 16-bit version is simply incredible. The graphics and sound are top class and the game plays like a dream. The game is really simple and to look at it you would think that it would become a bit repetitive. However, this is not so and once played you can't put the game down. Paradroid 90 is a stunning shoot em-up and rates as one of the best I've ever played. I would definitely recommend it as a worthwhile addition to your software collection.

Power Play (84 out of 100) (84%)

Amiga Power (5 out of 6) (83%)

A five year old game idea, and it still wipes the floor with most competition.

ASM (Aktueller Software Markt) (8.2 out of 12) (68%)

Good Old Days, The (staff reviews only) (4 out of 6) (67%)

So, in a way, the graphical overhaul turns out to be more of a curse than a blessing. With some practice, Paradroid 90 can be a lot of fun, but I'd take the original over this any day.

Amiga Joker (62 out of 100) (62%)
