Gundam Versus
Description official description
After six years of version updates to Extreme Vs., Gundam Versus marks a fully new entry, designed for home consoles, in the long running Vs. series. The base game starts with 94 playable units spanning 40 years of Gundam anime, manga, and games, including Vs. series first appearances for Reconguista in G, Iron-Blooded Orphans, MSG Thunderbolt, and Gundam Build Fighters. Additional playable units are rolled out on a regular schedule as paid DLC.
As in the other Vs. series games units are controlled with the 3+2 button layout, with three buttons dedicated to shooting, melee, and dashing, respectively, and additional attacks possible by pressing buttons simultaneously. Additional buttons are used to change targets (in multiple target combat) and send quick messages to an ally. New for this version is a universal striker system. In previous games some units would have, as a regular move, the ability to summon additional MS/MA into the battlefield. Now all units select a striker unit before a match, and can summon them on command with a recharge delay, or only once per match for more powerful strikers. Units "level up" based on their total play time, unlocking new strikers, player icons & title, and in-battle cosmetic navigators and pilots. The A/B Awakening system introduced in FULL BOOST has also been updated into Blaze Gear and Lighting Gear selections. Now all units have roughly similar stat boosts for Burst mode depending on the Gear selection; either higher damage and speed for Blaze, or higher combo potential and damage reduction for Lighting.
A new dashing technique, Boost Dive, has been added to rapidly return aerial units to the ground. This is an important technique to master, as a new Unit Inactive debuff has been added that greatly penalizes running out of boost meter. The longer a unit stays at zero boost while airborne the more time they will spend immobile after returning to the ground, up to two seconds.
In addition to the primary 2v2 versus mode GUNDAM VERSUS also introduces new 1v1 and 3v3 modes. In addition to multiplayer ranked, player match, and free battle modes the game has single player Trial and Ultimate Battle modes. Ultimate Battle drops the player's unit into battle against progressively powerful waves of foes, as they power up their stats between waves. Trial Battle recreates ironic battles from the history of Gundam, including non-playable giant Mobile Armors. New DLC units can also be tested in Trial Battle before purchase.
