SteamWorld Dig 2 is everything that you may want for a sequel. It takes the digging formula of its predecessor and makes it more fun to play, prettier to look at, and more pleasant to listen to. Fans of both platform and Metroidvania genres will be pleased by its enjoyable gameplay and, even if you’re not into those style of games, it may be worth a try - as it is one of the best indie games released on the Switch.

Overall, Steamworld Dig 2 was a phenomenal surprise, a truly engaging experience that starts a bit slow, but becomes addictive once you start improving your skills. It’s one of those games where you won’t even notice time pass by while you play it, as you’ll be constantly immersed in its pop reference jokes and engaging exploration. This is one of the best Switch games so far, a mandatory title for all Switch owners, and a great game to have on-the-go. That little console is getting better and better by the minute.

Playing on the Switch in both portable mode and on the big screen is great, and there is always plenty to discover through the course of the story. SteamWorld Dig 2 retains the original’s addictive resource-gathering gameplay, but supplements it with a gorgeously detailed, handcrafted world. Its heady mix of exploration, combat, platforming, and puzzle solving, alongside an expansive set of abilities and mods gives it plenty of variety and a great gameplay rhythm. I wish there was more to do once the campaign ends, but that’s a testament to the fact that what is here is just about pitch perfect.

Als Serien-Neuling hatte ich bereits einen gemütliches Action-Adventure unter Tage erwartet - aber dass Steamworld Dig 2 derart gut wird, hätte ich nicht gedacht! Vom charmanten Figurendesign über toll designte Rätsel bis hin zu den motivierend eingebundenen Upgrades wirkt hier alles unheimlich geschliffen, so dass dem entspannenden Graben, Rätseln und Kämpfen nichts im Wege steht. Hier wird man von Anfang an in eine mysteriöse, humorvolle und unheimlich entspannende Atmosphäre eingelullt, der man sich mit jeder weiteren Spielstunde immer schwerer entziehen kann. Vor allem mobil ist der Trip eine schöne Sache. Das Switch-Lineup ist nach Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle um einen weiteren Titel reicher, bei dem man nicht jede Sekunde hochkonzentriert aufpassen muss – und die Vita bekommt ein von der Stimmung her ähnliches Gegenstück zu Metroid: Samus Returns inmitten mysteriöser Katakomben.

SteamWorld Dig 2 is a wonderful take on the "Metroidvania" formula. It's a little short for the price tag, but each hour you sink into it is an absolute blast -- frustrating final boss aside.

Creuser à en émousser sa pioche et se perdre dans un dédale de galeries souterraines n’a jamais été aussi plaisant. Digne héritier d’un premier épisode qui avait enchanté la presse et le public, SteamWorld Dig 2 se permet le luxe de corriger partiellement les errements de son aîné. Le titre d’Image & Form est un petit bijou visuel profitant d’une direction artistique 2D hors norme et d’une ambiance de fin du monde envoûtante. Ce jeu d’aventure souffre tout de même d’une certaine répétitivité et d’un unique combat de boss. Et pourtant... la magie de cet univers Steampunk décalé opère une fois encore à la lueur d’une lampe à gaz.
