Total War: Warhammer II
Description official description
Total War: Warhammer II is a single-player and multiplayer turn-based strategy and real-time tactics game. The game takes place in the Warhammer universe, focusing on a struggle for control of the Great Vortex, a powerful magical phenomenon that affects the balance of the world. The player leads a legendary lord from one of several factions, including High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven, each with its own storyline and motives for seeking dominance. The campaign combines exploration, empire building, and battles as factions attempt to complete rituals that shape the fate of the Vortex.
The campaign map is turn-based, where players manage settlements, armies, and diplomacy. Cities can be developed to unlock units, technologies, and economic advantages. Armies are recruited and moved strategically across the map, while agents and heroes provide specialized abilities such as scouting, sabotage, or assassination. Rituals are a central mechanic, requiring resources and defense against enemy intervention when performed.
Real-time battles occur when armies engage. The player commands units directly, positioning infantry, cavalry, artillery, and special creatures across varied terrain. Units must be coordinated to exploit flanks, maintain morale, and counter enemy strengths. Each faction introduces distinctive mechanics: High Elves rely on balanced armies and influence, Dark Elves thrive on slave labor and high aggression, Lizardmen field powerful dinosaurs and resilient infantry, while Skaven use massed numbers and hidden units. Magic and lords’ abilities further shape the outcome, with spells altering the tide of combat.
Character progression plays a significant role. Lords and heroes gain experience, unlock skills, and can acquire equipment or mounts. Campaign research trees provide faction-specific upgrades, while unique mechanics like corruption, food supplies, or loyalty influence each race differently.
Diplomacy allows alliances, trade, and manipulation, while quests tied to legendary lords grant narrative battles and rewards. Public order, corruption, and special events create ongoing challenges in managing provinces. Naval travel and exploration of the seas introduce encounters with treasure, hazards, and rival fleets, making movement across the campaign map more dynamic than in the predecessor, Total War: Warhammer.
Multiplayer includes competitive and cooperative options. Players can wage custom battles against each other or engage in long-term campaigns where rival strategies unfold across the map. Cooperative play allows allies to share resources and pursue parallel objectives, while competitive campaigns force direct military and diplomatic confrontation.
