WindowsThe Dove Foundation (Mar 22, 2005)
With this taking place in the olden times, fighting for land was not to uncommon. There is a lot of killing in this game but this violence is not seen up close so it will not scar your child emotionally like so many of the games that are on the market today. With no sex, drugs, or occultism, this game would be suitable for children 12 and up. This Game gives a lot of strategic elements into your game play. With ongoing battles and building a civilization this game will kill some major time without you even knowing it. I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys highly strategic games like this one.

The bottom line is quite simple - Age of Empires II is very possibly the best real-time strategy game currently available for the Macintosh, and at the least occupies a position of honor among the RTS Holy Trinity, with StarCraft and Myth II at the remaining points of the triad. It's not revolutionary in either graphics or gameplay, but it is highly evolutionary, bringing its genre to new heights. It's overwhelmingly recommended for history buffs and aficionados of RTS games, and is aggressively recommended for everyone else.

Full of action and historically thrilling battle, Age of Empires II: Gold Edition for Macintosh is sure to please veteran strategy fans and will likely convert skeptics or newcomers who have yet to experience this exciting and involving game.

Age of Empires II is both predictable and fun. It may be formulaic, but the challenge in balancing all its elements in unique maps keeps the game interesting.

There's so much going on at so many levels in this game that it should probably be covered in three reviews. Ensemble Studios has somehow managed to take a complex genre and make it accessible to both veterans and recruits alike. The stories are intriguing, the action is intense, and the game play is entraining. The more you play Age of Empires, the deeper into it you want to get. Luckily, with the number of campaigns included, the random and custom map features, and the multiplayer capabilities, you can get very deep indeed.
