ZX SpectrumComputer Emuzone (Sep 09, 2004)

Amstrad CPCRetro Game Reviews (Jul 30, 2014)
A classic Amstrad CPC game that's worth repeated play-throughs.

Featuring 18 in-game tunes, a huge selection of suitably ugly monster sprites and a polished horizontal scroll with an extra vertical bounce thrown in, AMC's technical merit is obvious. A lot of attention has gone into producing clear, finely-drawn graphics and presenting them well - the main sprite even walks in time to the music's beat. Disappearing floors, moving platforms, pits and monsters inject a much-used game style with extra spirit.

AmigaThe One (Jun, 1990)
Unusually for a Dinamic game, it's not impossibly difficult either - just hard enough to inspire you with a man-size desire to win. Action freaks might find it a bit lacking in substance, especially at the hefty price, but anyone tempted by the thought of 18 different soundtracks' worth of marine corps extermination should definitely consider joining up.

Atari STST Format (Aug, 1990)
AMC is certainly a competent shoot-'em-up, but it's no more than that. There's nothing to make the game memorable, though that isn't to say it's boring. The action is fun, mindless, and absorbing, and the huge range of enemies and bonus pods keeps it that way for hours. Nevertheless, the day when hackneyed game styles can succeed because of brilliant graphics has gladly gone.

an there be a life as gung ho as an Astro Marine’s? Big guns, rippling muscles and loads of beer and death. But life is not all fun and laughter. Just like a fireman has to deal with fire-infested buildings, and Roy Schneider in "Jaws" had to deal with shark infested waters, the Astro Marine Corps tackle minor problems such as hordes of invading aliens.

AmigaPower Play (Aug, 1990)

AmigaThe Games Machine (UK) (Jun, 1990)
To it's credit, Amiga AMC's skyline is very attractively drawn but other background features are rather ordinary. Sprites are well-shaded but not designed and animation is weak. There are some good sounds but they're composed in a weak, unimpressive manner. Gameplay is awkward and remarkably mediocre, certain features/areas seeming harmless until you touch/reach them (bit late by then). It's repetitive, clichéd and unnecessarily difficult.

Commodore 64Zzap! (Aug, 1990)
There's nothing new here, and even the Maniacs of Noise have somehow produced a poor tune. The best thing about it are the graphics which, although Spectrum-like, work well.

Commodore 64The Games Machine (UK) (Jun, 1990)
Gameplay is awkward and remarkably mediocre, certain features/areas seeming harmless until you touch/reach them (bit late by then). It's repetitive, clichéd and unnecessarily difficult. Many better strolling shoot 'em ups are available on budget. Ikk. The soldier sprite is a yellow and brown blob who strolls around as if on roller skates, firing slow and jerkily-moving bullets. Enemies are short on detail and even shorter on colour (although I must admit I liked the purple trees) but scrolling's smooth. Sound effects are quirky, in a positive manner, and music's good and happy, but can't rescue the feeble gameplay.

You can tell this is an iffy game even before it's loaded. The title screen isn't too badly drawn but colour has been spewed all over the screen with little regard for the Spectrum's capabilities. The same goes for the game itself. Definition is rough anyway and two-plane parallax scrolling's jerky, but most noticeable are the many colours spread around - clash city (man). Gameplay is awkward and remarkably mediocre, certain features/areas seeming harmless until you touch/reach them (bit late by then). It's repetitive, clichéd and unnecessarily difficult. Many better strolling shoot 'em ups are available on budget.

Commodore 64ASM (Aktueller Software Markt) (Jul, 1990)
