A thoroughly enjoyable platform romp with everybody's favourite hero. It's tough and sometimes very frustrating, but it's addictive enough to keep you playing until you beat Hitler.
Amiga Format (Jul, 1989)
This is definitely the best Indy Jones game. The gameplay is old hat (groan) and is terribly frustrating at times, but if you like the platforms and ladders style of game the you'll find it enjoyable. As a tie-in to the film it works very well, but it stands up as a game in its own right too.
The only hopes I had for the game that weren't fulfilled were sequences with Dr. Henry Jones and levels that included riding the horse or the tank in the desert. Nevertheless, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Action Game far surpasses the expectations that I had.
Amiga Joker (Dec, 1994)
Good use has been made of the graphics capability - with a nice digitised pic of Indy in the bottom in the bottom right hand corner. The Amiga could have been used to better effects though - particularly in the sound department. More convincing swishing and cracking sound FX on Indy's whip would have been appreciated.
Additions to the ST game are a couple of extra sound effects, such as the 'Indy walking on cornflakes' effect when he moves. The same's true with the admittedly nice digitized pictures – but how much nicer some real gameplay would have been.
Power Play (Aug, 1989)
The game could have been much more. The game does little to put the player in the role of Indiana Jones. Indy is a good fighter, but he doesn't beat the villain with one punch in any of the three movies which featured him. Further, there are only two places where he can use his whip for swinging from one precarious place to another. Instead of becoming a game that features an Indiana Jones which fans can readily identify with, the game becomes just another search and recover game in which the character icon happens to resemble a familiar film hero. It would have been nice if the designers had brought some of Indy's personal characteristics to the game instead of settling for a "cardboard" caricature.
