The One Amiga (May, 1992)
(...) As a two-player game I'd recommend it wholeheartedly as the best side-on footy sim there is, but if you're only going to play it solo, you'd be well advised to have a few test plays before splashing out.

Zero (Aug, 1992)
The gameplay, however, is rather disappointing - passing and shooting can be frustrating, with variable strength kicks that are difficult to control. The lock-on facility works fine in itself, it's just the unpredictable power of the subsequent pass/shot that's a bit naff. Overall it's an okay game that doesn't exactly set the world alight. And what if John Barnes doesn't play? Not a top selling point, is it?

Amiga Mania (Aug, 1992)
All in all a good game with decent graphics and very playable but a bit limited to the European Championships.

CU Amiga (May, 1992)
However, even with brilliant ideas such as this, the game still can't cut it. Excellently presented, JBES advances the football game's image and look well into the 90's, but the playability takes us right back to the days of the infamous World Cup Carnival.

Amiga Power (Jun, 1992)
It's fine - better than most footy games, but still No Big Deal. Barnesy doesn't deserve to be shown any cards but it won't win any major cups either. It's likely to be one of the better footie games from this year's crop, but we're willing to bet, even at this early stage, that-you-know-exactly-what will show it a clean pair of.

Amiga Joker (May, 1992)

Play Time (Jun, 1992)

Amiga Action (Jun, 1992)
John Barnes European football is effectively the next game in the Manchester United series. In fact, if you've already glanced at the screen shots, you could be forgiven for thinking that we've made a mistake and that we're reviewing last year's incredibly successful Manchester United Europe for the second time.

Amiga Format (Aug, 1992)
It's difficult to work out which is the biggest travesty - England's performance during the ill-fated European Championships, or Krisalis's John Barnes European Football. With so many top-rated footballers England has no excuse to be playing so badly, and with so many top-rated football games around, Krisalis have no excuse for releasing this dog. They can't be blamed for Barnes's injury, but they sure as hell carry the can for this lousy offering. If you only buy one football game this season, make sure this isn't the one. Oh, and Barnsie - get well soon mate, it looks like we'll need you more than ever.

Génération 4 (Jun, 1992)
Un football comme tant d'autres...
