Your Amiga (Dec, 1990)
This is by far the best attempt at a roleplaying game to date but does have one or two minor drawbacks.
Raze (Jan, 1991)
Legend of Faerghail turned out to be a real surprise. Well presented, atmospheric and intelligently designed, Legend is a little cracker.
Zzap! (Dec, 1990)
Legend of Faerghail is a cracking RPG that, while not having the true role-playing finesse of the later Ultimas (i.e. minimal combat, lost of interaction), introduces a few tricks on its own that even they do not include. Well presented, atmospheric and intelligently designed, Legend is an essential purchase for all RPGers.
Amiga Joker (Jan, 1990)
Legend of Faerghail comes in a very impressive (and big!) box, along with a rather thick manual and a poster. The rest of the box is taken up by sponge padding (boo! say the greenies). Which describes this game quite aptly, methinks. Yes, Faerghail is a game with "meat" in it, but there are some deficiencies as well. All the extra rooms seem to be nothing more than extra padding.
Amiga Action (Nov, 1990)
Legend of Faerghail is a very good RPG, with some neat graphics and sound, and, more important, a very good storyline. Unfortunately, the game is just too similar to the old Bard's Tale series by Interplay - the layout of the screen is almost identical. Legend of Faerghail is a very good game and I can quite easily recommend it, but if you haven't got the Bard's Tale, go out and get that instead because it's a lot cheaper at only a tenner.

It would be hard not to be enchanted with the visuals and promise of this vast fantasy world and they go a long way toward making LOF a fulltime job. It may be running on four or five cylinders, but it takes one downtown. And once there, it might be too much enjoyment to even notice.
