The Games Machine (UK) (Jun, 1989)
Some cute little character graphics accompany the variables on the option screen, and this trend is continued in the game. While the graphics aren't fantastically detailed (the backgrounds are sparse) they're colourful and cartoon-like despite being largely unanimated. The occasional sound effects are sampled and the title music is effectively grim but repetitive. Some great simulated newspaper pages round off each game.
Your Amiga (Sep, 1989)
Mayday Squad should please an awful lot of people. There's just enough action for the blast 'em up fans whilst still retaining a reasonably challenging adventure scenario. Nice One.
Amiga Format (Aug, 1989)
All in all, with plenty of baddies to blast and some clever puzzles to solve, it is enjoyable and exciting for a while: but it is ultimately a simple 'search and shoot' game, lacking in variety and lasting challenge despite the advantage of changeable skill levels.
Power Play (Jun, 1989)
Mayday Squad ist ein gut gemachtes Action-Adventure mit einigen strategischen Elementen.
Amiga Computing (Jul, 1989)
Tynesoft should have kept this game either purely strategy, which it is partly, or purely arcade. It falls exactly between the two stools by picking a few bits of each. You might like it - I wasn't stunned - but see it running first.
ASM (Aktueller Software Markt) (May, 1989)
Commodore User (Jun, 1989)
A moderately good game which leaves you wondering if it could not have been a great one.
