[Retest] A simple principle, but an incredible compelling game.

Colourful, fast and detailed, the solid 3D graphics here are a joy to behold. The soundtrack's great too, with a running background tune throughout and great bursts of theme music to mark changes to the scene.

To begin with The Sentinel may prove frustrating, although the mouse control option helpfully cuts down on the keys needed, but once the first landscape has been mastered you will be hooked on one of the most compelling games ever. Scrolling remains stepped, like Driller, but is much faster on the Amiga and, together with some excellent music, makes this a first-rate conversion of a first-class game.

Jetzt ist endlich eine Umsetzung des genialen Strategie-Spiels für den Amiga erschienen. Sie scrollt von allen Versionen am schnellsten, was dem Spielfluß sehr gut bekommt. Neben den bekannten Soundeffekten sorgt eine Hintergrundmusik für stimmungsvolle Untermalung.

You might find the strategy and fast thinking involved in The Sentinel fascinating, or you might find it stunningly boring, but the fact is that you will probably never finish it. There are 10,000 levels to complete, each with an 8-digit access code which is revealed when you complete the previous level. Make sure you see The Sentinel, but before you buy, ask whether the thrill is likely to last for 10,000 levels.

Amiga Joker (Feb, 1995)
Aus heutiger Sicht wirken Steuerung (mit der Maus erträglicher als per Tastatur) und Grafik zwar ziemlich angestaubt, aber wer einmal die Adrenalinstöße dieses Katz-und-Maus-Spiels gespürt hat, kann verstehen, daß die Begeisterung seinerzeit groß war – erst am 64er (trotz quälend langsamer Grafik), dann auf allen 16-Bittern. Außerdem waren ausgefüllte Vektorflächen anno 1987 noch keine Selbstverständlichkeit, und nur der Amiga konnte mit stimmiger Musik nebst futuristischen Effekten aufwarten. Zudem gab es keine Nachladezeiten, weil alle Levels vorberechnet sind und dieser Code in den verteilten Paßwörtern abgesichert wird.
