The Video Game Critic (Jul 03, 2000)
This slick adventure game is absolutely superb in every respect. Its graphics are colorful and detailed, with no flicker to speak of. The control is best described as "crisp", and the gameplay is madly addicting.
Woodgrain Wonderland (Jul 09, 2017)
The graphics, while hardly Activision-quality, are nevertheless colourful and expressive. Very little sound, but what’s there is pleasant enough, with a happy little ditty that plays when you capture a gem or object and a short, sharp buzz when you die. You’ll probably want to grab some pencil and paper (remember them?) to map this bad boy out. Much fun to be had here.
The Atari Times (Sep 24, 2007)
Despite a few minor flaws here and there, Montezuma's Revenge is truly a unique game that one wouldn't usually expect on the Atari 2600. One of the unfortunate things is how rare it is, being released right around the time of the Great Video Game Crash. It's sad, too, because it set a standard for how adventure games should be. Now if people would stop associating the name with that infamous traveler's stomach bug!
VideoGame (May, 1991)
