The only gripe I have about this game is that can be quite easy. Sure, you can set it up for either "smart cats" or "dumb cats" with the left difficulty switch and "fast cats" or "slow cats" with the right one, but storing up enough bones to stay out of trouble becomes second nature after a few tries. Still, this title offers enough twists on the Pac-Man theme to keep me coming back to it quite a bit. This is a solid cartridge all the way through, and fans of maze games looking looking for something different from Ms. Pac-Man on the 2600 will get a kick out of this title.

The game only has one notable sound effect, and that's a screech that's heard as your dog snags a cat. Hey, that sounds like a real cat! I just wish they didn't reuse the same sound when a cat catches you. If you're in the process of transforming from dog to mouse when you touch a cat, it's hard to tell who caught who! Mouse Trap is tough, so don't leave any bones "on the table" when working on that final life. Four difficulty levels are available via difficulty switch combinations. Competently programmed and fun, Mouse Trap is a nice addition to the collection.

Woodgrain Wonderland (Jul 17, 2017)
Mouse Trap is an above-average maze game with virtually flicker-free graphics, nice sprite animation and even some brief but effective music. Although it comes down a little on the easy side with practice, figuring out the patterns that work is still a lot of fun.
So, Mouse Trap is a stripped-to-the-essentials game with several features missing, but it is still fun to play.

Still, at least the Atari 2600 version stayed true to the arcade game in spirit, if not in execution. Being able to have at least some control over the maze, as well as control exactly when it was time to become a dog were a couple of nice touches that allowed Mouse Trap to not be the monumental disappointment that Pac-Man was on the 2600. And when I was growing up, that was good enough for me!
