Woodgrain Wonderland (Feb 11, 2018)
To me, Atari 2600 Space Invaders stands as an amazing game unto itself, with any minor differences compensated for by its multitude of game variations. Not all the variations are winners (how does two-player alternating directions even work?) but invisible invaders, fast bombs, zig-zagging bombs and moving shields all get the most possible value out of an admittedly limited game. No wonder VCS sales skyrocketed upon its release.
The first licensed arcade game released for a console, Space Invaders was the first million-seller for the Atari VCS, firmly entrenching the system into mainstream America. The game is faithful in both spirit and play mechanics to its coin-op counterpart, but it does have a number of differences. Although there are only 36 invaders per wave (as opposed to 55), 112 game variations, including zigzagging laser bombs, two-player cooperative play, invisible invaders, and moving shields, more than make up for this deficiency. The home version doesn't look exactly like the original, but it does have appealing graphics, relatively faithful sound effects and excellent gameplay.
The Video Game Critic (Jun 30, 2004)
It's a little slow, but Space Invaders is a legitimate classic that packs a good deal of shooting satisfaction. Tip: Enable the secret "double-shot" mode by holding down the reset button when you turn the game on.
Space Invaders is a classic shooter that brought vitality to many dank bowling alleys. For the 2600 Space Invaders offers a lot of varied game play and fun for one or two players.
Atari HQ (2001)
You can't call yourself an Atari fan if you don't have this cartridge. It's a great game, featuring simplistic but fun gameplay, plus the massive options give it replay value you can't find very often.

The Atari Times (Oct 20, 2003)
Supreme, supreme, simplistic classic. Nanu nanu, beedybeedybeedy (that's Twiki from the 1980s version of Buck Rogers, in case you don't get that reference), live long and prosper, "mostly harmless" (my foot!), and may the force be with you, and all that.
JoyStik (Dec, 1982)
Atari offers 16 one-player and 96 two-player variations - enough to please all forms of Invader fans. But we prefer the version closest to the coin-op game - game 1 (or game 17 for two players) (...).
Le Geek (2003)
It's done as well as could be imagined, and it's still surprisingly addictive. The added options of zig-zagging bullets, guided missles, invisible enemies and moving shields automatically boost it far beyond most any other invasion game; it continues to exist as the best home version of this winner in any "Most Influential Game" contest.
In terms of replay value, it all comes down to how much you want to improve your high score. This game is fun enough that you very well might. But if you buy this game looking for an arcade-perfect port, you're doomed to be disappointed. If an arcade-perfect port is what you're looking for, go to and buy the Space Instigators homebrew. If all you're looking for is a fun version of Space Invaders, you've got it right here a lot cheaper than that.
Oldies Rising (Oct 30, 2009)
Trente ans.
