Woodgrain Wonderland (Apr 02, 2018)
I wasn’t in the mood for another side-scrolling shooter, but Stargunner slowly won me over. Although its gameplay is largely pretty standard for its genre, there are enough small differences between Stargunner and other, similar games to set it apart from the pack.

Schade!
Electronic Fun with Computers & Games (May, 1983)
The elaborate story that comes with the cartridge doesn't compensate for the undistinguished gameplay. What detracts even more is the uncreative sound effects which drone on at a constant level without ever enhancing the characters or building tension. It's the kind of incessant, annoying din that brings fathers to their knees and mothers in from the kitchen yelling, "Will you turn that darn thing off!?"

I usually opt for the hardest variations in Atari 2600 games, but the medium difficulty on Stargunner kicked my ass. In the hard level, the only points I could score was for colliding with aliens! Stargunner is pretty shallow but I enjoyed its quick games and twitch gameplay.
