Computer Games (Nov, 1983)
The programmers neglected sound, nearly nonexistent, and used the freed-up memory to make room for more lands, towns and dungeons. All told, Ultima II is an original, well-designed and executed adventure that offers many hours— more likely weeks and months! — of high-caliber entertainment.

Pas de grosse révolution à attendre pour Ultima II sur Atari 8 bits: si les possesseurs de systèmes européens regretteront de ne même pas pouvoir profiter des quatre couleurs du jeu, ils profiteront eux aussi de l’avantage de profiter d’une version légèrement débuguée. Pas de quoi rendre le jeu grandiose, mais au moins sensiblement plus jouable.
Happy Computer (Jun, 1985)
Kämpfen ist bei „Ultima II“ noch wichtiger als bei „Ultima I“, weil man die so gewonnenen Erfahrungspunkte später im Spiel benötigt. Der Anfang kann dadurch in eine langweilige Schlachterei ausarten. Das wird aber später im Verlauf des Spieles wieder wettgemacht.
