[Budget re-release] And although there have been plenty more arcade adventures released since Rick first made his moves, there's still more than enough humour and invention involved to keep any newcomer to the man's exploits running, jumping and hanging on to dear life by the skin of his hat. Great for all rootin' shootin' fun fans out there.

ST Format (May, 1992)
This is the easier re-released version of the game in which you can access each of the four levels via a menu at the start - but you can't complete the game this way. This is fortunate, because without it you'd never get to see the later levels. The game's tough - very, very tough, but immensely enjoyable, with cutesy cartoon graphics. spot-on samples and all the gameplay you can eat. Superb stuff.

The graphics are brilliant. The death sequences are excellent, because when you shoot them, there's no blood! they just scream 'Waaahhhh' at the top of their voices. It'll take one or two goes to get far in the game... but once you're in it... there's no way out... you'll be addicted for months.

The One (Jun, 1989)
Superbly designed and executed, Rick Dangerous rates as one of the most enjoyable 16-bit arcade games for a long time. If only more game designers would concentrate more on creating a fun game than clever technical effects.

It's incredibly easy to get into with very simplistic game-mechanics, but this make it all the more addictive. I've already spent hours playing the game, and am dying to get back to it so see whether I can get just that little bit further.

Il sera beaucoup pardonné à Rick Dangerous, y compris le fait d'être allé plagier sans vergogne le plus célèbre archéologue du Septième Art, tant il aura accompli sa mission avec une maestria qui a de quoi laisser rêveur. Une prise en main immédiate et une jouabilité limpide, additionné à un concept universel, aident à transformer le titre de Core Design en une sorte de mètre-étalon du Die and Retry dans ce qu'il a de plus exigeant, de plus atrocement difficile mais également de plus jubilatoire. Si tous les joueurs impatients, fragiles des nerfs ou simplement fourbus à la fin d'une longue journée de travail feraient mieux de garder leur distance, les amateurs de défi méthodique à relever à la force de leur joystick devraient trouver ici une forme de Graal, et engloutir dans un jeu ne payant a priori pas de mine quelques unes des plus belles semaines de leur vie. Vous vous croyez bon? Prouvez-le...

Arborant les couleurs d’Indiana Jones, Rick Dangerous n’a rien à envier au personnage d’origine tant l’aventure dans laquelle il nous plonge s’avère riche et variée. Profitant d’un level design particulièrement inspiré et obligeant le joueur à utiliser sans cesse sa matière grise, le soft atteint un niveau de difficulté qui frôle parfois l’abus. Alors que la plupart des passages nécessiteront d’être refaits maintes et maintes fois, le joueur avide de challenge ne pourra que jubiler devant ce périple tourmenté.

Moins connu que la belle Lara du grand public, néanmoins ce personnage est le premier succès de son éditeur et surtout il apparaît encore aujourd’hui comme un très bon titre. Qui sait... Une version portable actuelle pourrait-elle revoir les aventures de Rick tout comme les Lemmings qui datent de la même époque?

Strange that this game taken so long to reach the ST. A considerate additional option allows you to start on any of the first four levels, although this in no way makes the game any easier. Buy this without hesitation. Good news, too, is that there's another Rick adventure in production.

Although the scenes surround our jovial junior Indy scroll intermittently – and then jerkily – they make good use of colour, with effectively shaded rocks, wood and so on. Detail is packed into the sprites and gives them a cartoon flavour. Title music is simple yet fun, and effects samples include a great ricocheting pistol shot and an amusing 'Waaaaghh!' as a killed character falls off-screen. The playing area is actually a little smaller on the Amiga, almost square. Title music is irritating – poor sounds – and there's the addition of an inappropriate jump effect. It's expensive for what it offers but, Rick Dangerous is a good, old-fashioned, highly-playable arcade exploration jaunt.

Die einfachsten Spiele sind oft die besten. Rick Dangerous ist ebenso simpel wie suchtverdächtig; ein prima Puzzle-Grübel-Actionspiel, das wie eine Kreuzung aus den Oldies "H.E.R.O." und "Montezuma's Revenge" wirkt.

Trotzdem macht sich Abwechslung während des Spieles rar. Wie schon beim C-64 sind die Höhlen immer noch so plump und simpel gestaltet ,daß sie meistens nur einen Eingang und einen Ausgang besitzen. So wird das Spiel schnell langweilig. Zwar tragen Sound und die gute Grafik bei den 16 Bit-Versionen zur Motivation bei (kann sogar auf S/W umgeschaltet werden), aber das hält nicht lange an.
