ST Format (Feb, 1990)
There are plenty of additional extras hidden within the game such as treasure rooms, secret passages and invisible scenery to tax even veteran arcade adventurers, but it's still not too difficult for newcomers to join in the fun. If you enjoy games such as Wonderboy and Mario Bros, then you'll probably get an enormous amount of fun from Jambala, but even if you're not familiar with these games, it's still worth investigating.
JAMBALA ist technisch sauber gelöst, von Grafik und Sound her ausgereift. Laßt es Euch vorführen, und Ihr werdet‘s wissen!
Very similar to the Amiga version; colourful graphics, good sound (though less impressive than the Amiga) but gameplay clichéd and only of passing interest.
The latest game to come from the Grandslam/Thalion alliance (the first we saw being Chambers of Shaolin). Seven Gates of Jambala is a collect 'em up not dissimilar to the likes of Super Mario Bros in gameplay. Scrolling left to right as all the best collect 'em ups do, this is a playable, addictive game which, although looking only average, has loads of super music and goodies of all-important addictive qualities.
ST Action (Jan, 1990)
As well as the sudden influx of racing games, cute platform-style games are also making something of a reviavl. Grandslam's Seven Gates of Jambala is just one of several similar games to appear just lately but, for me, it has something extra. Graphically the game is very well presented, the well drawn back-drops and the nicely animated end-of-level monsters being particularly memorable. The sound is also exceptional. Instead of incorporating one catchy tune, Jambala has loads of them. The gameplay is simple yet addictive and the game holds a long-lasting challenge to platform fans. All in all, Seven Gates of Jambala is a standard platform romp that's been polished near to perfection.
Polished graphics, detailed animation and a mellow soundtrack, manage to steep the game in a cute olde worlde fantasy atmosphere, FX on the other hand - a mish mash of familiar arcade adventure sounds - are less imaginative. The one-way horizontal scrolling is generally smoother than the two-way vertical movement.
Power Play (Mar, 1990)
Ein nettes Spiel, das zwar nicht zur Spitzenklasse der Action-Adventure gehört, aber doch einige Zeit am Computer fesseln kann.
