Backgammon is an adaptation of the original two-player board game. The two players receive 15 pieces each (red or black colour, respectively), which they must move across the board in a semicircular fashion all the way to their home tray. The board itself is divided into two big rectangular parts: the home board and the outer board. Each half has 12 triangles placed evenly on the upper and lower sides, for a total of 24 triangles on the entire board. These triangles are usually called points.

To move pieces, a player must roll a set of two dice. A move corresponds to a die. This way, if the player rolls a two and a three he has two moves, one for two points and another for three. He or she can move the same piece twice, or two different pieces. If doubles are rolled (e.g. 5-5), the player has a total of four moves for a number of points equal to the value of the die. The player can move to one of three types of triangles: an empty one, a triangle occupied by friendly pieces or a triangle occupied by a single enemy piece. The player cannot move to a triangle occupied by two or more enemy pieces. When moving over an enemy piece, it is removed and placed on the bar. The opponent must then move it back into the board.

Once a player succeeds in placing all of his or her pieces at the bottom of the home board, they can be transferred gradually into the tray. The first who moves all of them into the tray wins. Winning while the opponent has zero pieces in the tray is called "gammoning". If in addition to that the loser has one piece on the bar, it's called "backgammoning". At the end of the match, the players will move up or down in the overall standing. In the options menu, several settings can be changed, such as adding the Crawford rule, the Holland rules, the Jacoby rule or a timer.
