BackStab is an action game set in the Caribbean. You take upon the role of Royal Navy captain Henry Blake going to the other side of the law after he found himself an unwilling part in a power-grabbing plot. The colony he stayed in was besieged by Spanish forces and despite defenders efforts, the city fell - not without help of his comrade, a fellow English officer. Henry is forced to flee and becomes a wanted person. This is now a personal revenge to set things right and punish those who wronged him.
The game could be best described as a more or less take on Assassin's Creed from a piracy angle, a couple of years before Black Flag came out. The game is played from a third person person view. Your character runs around the town assassinating (backstabbing) guards, stealing valuables and using parkour moves to traverse through upper levels of the town and using hideouts to get rid of the chase. BackStab features an open-world with several regions including the city, smaller towns and villages, and various regions of the island. Horses can be used -- bought or stolen -- to get around faster. Weapons -- both cold and firearm -- can be upgraded and new combos learned. And of course, as in any self-respecting Caribbean story, there are treasure maps scattered throughout the island.
