BARRIER X is a very fast avoiding game similar in spirit to a title like Super Hexagon or Race the Sun. The player needs to steer a ship through seven endless, bright neon worlds unlocked gradually. The goal is to survive as long as possible, simply by moving left or right to avoid barriers. The ship goes very fast and a single collision ends the run, so there is an additional visual cue. Lanes with barriers ahead turn red, so the ship need to be moved quickly left or right to move into a dark lane. There are no borders to the track, making it possible to move left or right endlessly.

Every fifteen seconds the game is sped up. To unlock a new level it is required to survive for 30 seconds and a level is marked completed after surviving 60 seconds. Next to aesthetic differences, levels introduce new elements such as blue barriers. These block the ship's trajectory, so it is required to follow the arrows to avoid blocking. When stuck in a lane an additional action can be used to escape.

The game has leaderboards to compare scores worldwide. The mobile versions are free-to-play with a single in-app purchase to remove all ads permanently.
