Baseball Mogul 2006 is a managerial baseball simulation. The player takes the role of a General Manager of a Major League Baseball team and is responsible for its athletic and financial success.
The user interface uses the typical Windows menus to reach the various screens. On the financial side, the player can manage income (ticket prices, concessions and broadcast) and expenses (dividing the available funds - after the fixed costs have been deducted - between the farm system, scouting and medical staff). It is also possible to build a new stadium. Team management includes setting the rotation for defense and offense, changing tactics, selecting the lineup and trading athletes. There are also various statistics which can be viewed for analysis; the accuracy of athlete statistics depend on the scouting budget.
The player can choose how long the game should simulate ahead (e.g. only a day, the full season or until a fixed date) and when the period is over, the player takes control again. Matches can be viewed play-by-play, but without options for intervention. Players can also enter the "Commissioner Mode" which allows to edit the properties of cities, stadiums and teams (the latter not during a season). Multiplayer is not directly supported, but leagues can be hosted by using the commissioner mode. The commissioner can set teams to human control and manually enter the commands by other players.
The main additions to the predecessor are athlete personalities and morale which affect their performance and team chemistry, expanded contract negotiations, a minor league system and the option to start in all seasons between 1901 and 2006. The data is taken from the Lahman Baseball Database.
