Description

BasketBelle is a 2D puzzle platformer based around basketball mechanics. The player controls a boy who was introduced to basketball by his father. He plays on a court and one day he gets a little sister called Belle. When she's grown up, they start playing together and even though she is not very good at it, they have a good time and she jokingly calls herself BasketBelle. One day, when playing together, the ball is thrown too far and when the boy returns after fetching it, Belle is gone and she has only left a yellow backpack behind. Armed with the basketball he was given by his father, the boy sets out to investigate what has happened to her. The short slices of story throughout the game deal with family values and the temptations that drive people away from each other.

The different game sequences all have basketball in common. There are one-on-ones where the boy has to play on a court against a purple monster. He can run around, slide, jump, shoot and dunk. As long as the path is not obstructed he always scores and by jumping the ball can be intercepted from the air. The scenes each have different gameplay. A large part of the game is spent as a puzzle platformer where the boy needs to sink the ball to progress to another part. Even though he can move around with the ball, jumping triggers a shot, so he cannot jump to a different platform carrying the ball. That way the player needs to push or press green parts to open up a path so can shoot or dunk without an obstacle in the way. Later puzzles require more complex combinations including sliding. In another part he needs to climb the Eiffel tower and avoid debris falling down. Another part has him flying through a horizontally-scrolling level chasing after a monster and also a part flying down vertically. At a certain point he leans to fly in the air and even though he generally scores all the time, there is also a sequence where the distance and the height determines the shot's curve.

The game includes a browser version to be played locally as well as the full digital soundtrack, bonus tracks, album art, concept art, liner notes and access to a making-of featurette.
