AmigaCommodore User (Sep, 1989)
This is one of the most addictive games I've played in a long time. Beach Volley is as simple to play as it is gorgeous to look at - and by simple I don't mean easy, but brilliantly straightforward in idea.
AmigaThe One (Aug, 1989)
The graphics are of a very high standard and add to the overall feel no end. They're simple enough, but just oozing with style and humour, from the nude models on the beach to the players' quiff hairstyles! Things are equally folly in the sound department with umpteen heavy rock tunes and catchy jingles coupled with plenty of sampled "oohs" and "aahs" adding to the enjoyment. The emphasis here is on fun, and there's certainly more than enough of that on show.
OCEAN - well done!
AmigaThe Games Machine (UK) (Dec, 1989)
Beach Volley, the first Ocean France product, is graphically and sonically engaging, and although the sport (what with our weather) is a minority interest, this game could do something for increasing its popularity.
Atari STASM (Aktueller Software Markt) (Sep, 1989)
Atari STThe Games Machine (UK) (Feb, 1990)
London's top Volley team are back on the ST, and are as athletic as ever. Graphically as good as the Amiga offering, but the sound suffers the usual malady of being squeeky. Also missing are the excellent speech samples that introduce each venue, but that is a small niggle Beach Volley is a fun way to acquaint yourself with a sport that is big over the pond, but is sadly under-exposed here.
AmigaAmiga Action (Nov, 1989)
When I first heard the amazing sound and saw the outstanding graphics, Beach Volley really looked like it was going to be a corker. How wrong I was. This game got everything going for it, except the most important thing: game play - it's just impossible. It doesn't usually take me long to pick up a game, but I couldn't even get off the first level on this one. Beach Volley is a state of the art game presentation-wise, but it's just too frustrating to enjoy.
Atari STST Format (Feb, 1990)
Still, Beach Volley is the best representation of volleyball seen on a computer so far. Maybe the true potential of the sport is doomed never to be fully realised in digital format.
AmigaAmiga Power (Sep, 1991)
[Budget re-release] It's incredible that this was once £25. Don't let the cartoon graphics trick you into buying this poorly-disguised variation on a poor tennis game.
