Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder is a fun little racing game that manages to incorporate some interesting economic elements to get you thinking and plenty of original characters and lowbrow humor to keep you laughing. Buying low, selling high, upgrading your rig, and saving momma is what it’s all about and the thrill of racing trucks just can’t be beat.

To be honest, as a newbie to the series I didn’t expect the level of depth that Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder had to offer. I expected it to be a straight point-to-point semi racer like Sega’s 18 Wheeler. Big Mutha Truckers 2 is no San Andreas, but for $20, it’s a pretty neat diversion from the norm. Really, except for the weird vehicle control on the alternate vehicles and some graphics issues (which are more the fault of the console itself), I can’t say there is too much to complain about with Big Mutha Truckers 2.

Overall, there’s fun to be had in Big Mutha Truckers 2, but the frustration of certain view-blocking things popping up from time to time found me throwing my controller and screaming obscenities. I did find some fun here, but it could have been a much better game if the problems weren’t present. Here’s to hoping they fix these issues if they decide to make a third one.

Big Mutha Truckers 2 is an interesting and unusual concept that surprisingly works, within the confines of itself. The major problem I have with the title is its size and general lack of ambition. Basically you go from one place to another and repeat which does become boring after extended play. The mini games and dialogue help break this up but still doesn’t detract from the overall lack of things to do here. Other than this there really is nothing wrong with the title as it all seems to work nicely I guess the big question is whether it’s worth spending money on? Well for the budget price it’s released at then I would say maybe as it does offer some fun. Other than that I think the game makes an interesting and hectic weekend’s rental.

To get the most out of Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder, you have to take things at face value. Chances are that you could probably guess from the title that this isn't the classiest videogame on the market. Frankly, it's got the class of a beer fart and that pretty much sums up the style of low brow humor that you'll be exposed to. Don't expect much more than a cheesy hillbilly romp through the rural roads of America. But then again, what more could one want?

I have to admit, I didn't really like the concept of this game, but I was willing to give it a chance. It just seemed that the game conspired to suck all the fun out of it. As stated before, the gameplay is very basic and not exciting at all. While I was able to complete the game, it definitely felt like a chore at times, and I didn't bother unlocking everything. At $20, the game is barely worth it. It's more likely to be worth it to pick it up used for $10-15, or even better, just get the first game if you really want something along these lines.

After the novelty fades, Truckers 2 starts to feel more like a job than a game, as you realize life on the road is just one repetitive haul after another.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing (Sep 14, 2005)
This is a bargain bin title, and it shows. Lacking the creativity of other $20 games like Katamari Damacy or Alien Hominid, Big Mutha Truckers 2 falls in somewhere above Crazy Taxi on the level of value. If you like driving recklessly and crashing into things, you won't be disappointed. If you're just looking for a chance to actually drive a big rig truck, look towards Sega's Eighteen Wheeler game.

There is definitely an audience for Big Mutha Truckers 2 as the first game did break the million sold mark, but will those million plus buyers stay interested in more of the same without too much innovation? Perhaps, but it seems to us that such features as multiplayer modes, even if they were only offline, could have greatly helped push the sequel further beyond its predecessor’s marks.

If you enjoy games, don’t get Big Mutha Truckers 2. Even at $19.99, it’s by no means worth playing unless you’re the type of person that finds Blue Collar TV hilarious.

So where does all this leave ol' Ma Jackson and her Big Mutha Truckin' posse? Well, somewhere in the middle of the road, neither being atrociously bad nor especially good. At its budget price of £19.99, it has the advantage of being worth a blast if you liked the original game or fancy some fleeting fun at a relatively low cost; hence the 6 score instead of a 5. Just be warned though, unlike Ma Jackson's… ample… frame, there's not enough meat on these bones to make it more than a short lived curiosity. Much like the unsubtleties of its title, Big Mutha Truckers 2 shows far too much too soon, and prematurely shoots its load before reaching the much pursued destination of Real Satisfaction. Sigh. A truckin' shame? Truck yeah.

Big Mutha Truckers 2 is an excellent example of what an arcade-style driving game shouldn’t be. While it could have been interesting with proper development, it is instead a forgettable title that is probably not even worth the cost of a Blockbuster rental, never mind the $20.00 price tag.

So the game doesn’t sound like it has much to it, and to be perfectly honest you would be right. However, that doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable game. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s a really easy and simple game to get into. It won’t take forever to complete, but at a UK retail price of £19.99, I really don’t think you could ask much more for your money. It’s certainly got much more to it than Sega’s 18 Wheeler game which came out full price a few years back. So, if you’re a fan of the first game, or fancy something a little different to play, give it a go, you might just like it.

In case I hadn't left any comments out, THQ's low-budget truck driving game mixes tried-and-true arcade truck driving with a colorful cast of characters, country-flavored humor, and a whole lot of gigantic boobery. It's very light-hearted fun for a very short period of time. It's worth renting if you're just THAT curious. But the additions and changes aren't drastic enough to warrant another purchase. Still, if you're drunk, stupid, and bored out of your mind, and you require an absolutely brain-dead game to pass the time, Truck Me Harder might just be lame enough to fit the bill.

PlayStation 2GameZone (Sep 06, 2005)
Big Mutha Truckers 2 is not a major improvement from the first game nor does it introduce new elements to its gameplay and that alone is what keeps this from being a truck driving game worth twenty dollars. With very little to laugh at in terms of good jokes and repetitive missions, gamers might want to skip this one altogether.

I've mentioned budget title a few times in this review, too. I'll keep on saying it, because it's the only thing that works in its favour. It's cheap. Not as cheap as chips - and not nearly as tasty either. No. But it might appeal to a few people, those people that enjoyed the first Mutha Trucker title for example. I think Big Mutha Truckers 2: Truck Me Harder has some good ideas, which would be put to better use if they were used as diversities in a game like GTA. It would be cool to trade on a game like that and buy people off with cash - I like these ideas. But when a game feels like two or three elements that could only be used to make a ten-scoring title better then that leaves Truck Me Harder short of any real gameplay substance. And for that, I'd be trucking crazy to score this one any taller that the short, stumpy and pig-ugly Big Ma!

Since most of them are probably still busy ogling the drunken coeds of The Guy Game or using the Hot Coffee mode to make CJ get it on with his girlfriends in San Andreas, BMT2 is not likely to find an audience. If you find yourself considering purchasing this at your local EB Games, put it down, get the truck outta there and go rent Smokey and the Bandit instead. The two hours of enjoyment you'll get out of that is more than you'll get from this title.

If the game wasn’t so blatantly repetitive and restrictive, the humor so blandly childish and the control so poor, this could’ve had the potential to be a somewhat creative game. However, the fun of this value title quickly wanes once you’ve run through a few missions and notice the main problems with the game. Unless you’re a fan of that kind of humor or a devotee to driving, you’re probably going to leave this bargain title at the bottom of the bin.

Not a single aspect of Big Mutha Truckers 2 gives any indication as to why, exactly, a sequel was really warranted. Eutechnyx didn't make the first game better--it just made it dumber. It's not funny, interesting, or particularly fun on any front, and it isn't going to be appealing to anybody without the lowest of lowbrow senses of humor. Unless that's you, your $20 is definitely best spent elsewhere.

PlayStation 2GamesFirst! (Sep 12, 2005)
Good driving games focus on two elements: the player's vehicle and the game world. In BMT2 the developers seem to have overlooked these two key elements and instead, poured all of their time, into creating ambiance with corny cut-scenes and teenage-caliber humor written all over the walls of the various dives the jurors hide out in. With fairly typical gameplay and run-of-the-mill graphics, if I was stranded on the roadside and saw one of Ma Jackson's headed my way, I'd hide my thumb and hitch a ride home with someone else.

PlayStation 2Darkstation (Sep 14, 2005)
Big Mutha Truckers 2 is a game that really just never manages to do anything right and the fact that this game is a sequel doesn't help its cause either. Unless you really have to rent this game because you want to be a truck driver when you grow up I would say that spending twenty dollars on this game would be much to spend for this game. This game just really doesn't have all that much to it and what it does have just really is not all that much fun.

WindowsGameSpy (Nov 04, 2005)
There's nothing outright horrific about Big Mutha Truckers 2; in extremely short bursts, it can even be a bit of no-brainer fun. But there's too much that's underdeveloped and gruelingly tedious over the long haul. After an hour or two, you'll probably say "truck this game" and haul on down the road.
