Description

Block Legend DX is a mixture of RPG and tile-match puzzle: it plays like a puzzle game, but relies on RPG ingredients.

You can choose between a variety of heroes with different skills and strengths, and the game has many regions to wander around, each one with different graphics, enemies, music, and things to find. While walking, you meet many monsters, from the classic slime to very original and funny foes such as Fatlike Franky, a Frankenstein monster with overweight. But instead of the typical hack and slash, you interact with the enemy in the battle through a tile-match puzzle. Clicking on two or more tiles of equal kind will remove them and have an effect: attack the monster with your weapon, raise your defenses, heal vitality etc.

The game has two modes, walk and battle. While walking, you can play the puzzle normally, and gain experience, gold, treasure, or set up the tiles for the next battle. When a random monster appears, and the battle begins, some of the tiles change to battle mode, and the attack begins. While walking you can also find NPCs which offer you items which you can buy with collected gold. And at the end of each walk there's a boss, a specially hard and unique monster which will always reward you with starblocks, used to unlock characters and regions, and other things.

As your character gains experience, stats also raise. You can have more max health, or more strength to deliver more physical damage, etc. Although that part is very simplified, it is important because not all monsters or regions react equally to the same attacks. There are also quests, little missions that reward you when completed, e.g. heal 1,000 HP or clear an entire row of tiles at once. There is a variety of characters, monsters, bosses, items, weapons, armour, NPCs and quests. An NPC for instance offers you to enter a dungeon where you fight battle after battle for increased XP.

All this is wrapped up with pixelated graphics, very colourful and lighthearted, with many references to classic JRPGs and (Japanese) pop culture, and also synth music. There is also an arena mode to play against another player or the computer, and a boss rush.
