Description
Britney Spears: American Dream is game about an aspiring star who is introduced in the industry after a chance meeting with pop icon Britney Spears. It is very similar to the earlier
Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,
Katy Perry: Pop and
Kendall & Kylie where a celebrity guides the player's character on the road to fame. All of these games are based on the
Stardom games. This one is most similar to
Katy Perry: Pop as it is also about a musical career. There are however also differences for this version, such as the use of Britney's music and voice during the game, the ability to design custom cover art for singles, an economy system with different lists as tiers as well as fans and sales compared against other users worldwide, and the ability to join or found a record label that act as a guild-like system to cooperate with other players.
Most of the other game mechanics are very similar to
Katy Perry Pop. With Britney's help, the character gets to meet the right people and need to complete missions to attract fans. This includes getting gigs at clubs, shopping for outfits and doing photo shoots, networking and charming the right people, setting up venues, getting inspiration to write songs, inviting guest artists, recording an album and so on. There are also many lifestyle elements to it, such as calls to characters, rumours and gossip.
There are different locations in the US to visit with bars, recording studios, clubs ... Interaction is limited to tapping icons to further the story. Sometimes there are branching dialogue options. The most important elements require a lot of actions that consume energy. Energy drains fast and regenerates over time, by waiting or spending currencies. There is also a basic coin currency and the premium B-Gems currency.
A lot of time can be spent choosing the right outfit. The character can either be male or female and can be fully customized, from skin colour to hair, eyes, nose, and many categories for clothes with dresses, shorts, shoes, glasses and even microphones or music instruments. Additional items are earned by completing missions and by reaching certain levels. Most of them then still need to be bought using the currencies. It is possible to buy cars and decorate the character's apartment.
