Heroes isn't a crap game. In fact, it's pretty damn spiffy. It's easily worth putting some time into, and it's more than worth the $0 price of admission. It may even be worth dropping a couple bucks on a trucker hat and blue face paint if you want to rock the redneck Braveheart look while getting blown up. In fact, the meanest thing I can say about it is that the game's theme song is one of the most annoying earworms ever inflicted on me by a videogame.
Overall, Battlefield Heroes a very enjoyable game -- the rich colors and cartoon-y graphics make for a nostalgic look back to the earlier, purer days of gaming. Most of all: It's free! if you haven't played it, what have you got to lose? Give it a go!

Battlefield Heroes is easy to play, and like a role playing game you gain experience as you play. This means when you start a game you'll be sent to a game where the other players are of a similar level to you. There are different game modes and play areas, although they all look pretty similar. The graphical style is good, and the sound is great too. Battlefield Heroes is not a subtle game, but based on fast paced action, dying and respawning. Bright and bold, Battlefield Heroes is a great piece of multiplayer action that is highly recommended.

Battlefield Heroes is a polished MMO shooter with a unique graphical style and an inviting casual atmosphere. Matches are fast-paced, but still retain the epic feel of previous Battlefield titles. Battlefield Heroes is a great choice for both new and veteran MMOFPS players alike.

Mich hatte Heroes lange kalt gelassen.

Kilts and personal servers aside, Battlefield Heroes is completely free, so any question of the game's value is necessarily going to be skewed a bit. Is it worth it to invest your time, energy and bandwidth into this game? Definitely, yes. Is it more fun than games I've actually paid for? That's also a yes. Do the developers need to add more variety to keep me from getting bored after a few weeks of this? Again, yes. The real verdict is that Battlefield Heroes is a lively and dynamic version of the series stripped down to the undeniably appealing essentials. By eliminating all the complexity and distraction that has invaded the Battlefield series over the last seven years, the designers here have proven just how solid the fundamentals are -- two teams, a few vehicles and a couple of flags. What more could you ask for? Considering the price tag, nothing.

There's too little vitality and variety to rival the great online shooters, but Battlefield Heroes is definitely worth a free download.
Gameplay (Benelux) (Aug 28, 2009)
DarkZero (Jul 06, 2009)
Of course, this entire review is basically moot, since it’ll cost you absolutely nothing to follow this link and try the game out for yourself, for free. Just be warned that while you’ll enjoy it much more if you play with your friends, you’ll have trouble doing so unless you want to – gasp! – give the developers some money for their hard work. It’s just kind of sad that such a great game makes you feel like such a mug for actually paying for it.
Total PC Gaming (Jul 25, 2009)
There’s a real sense of satisfaction to be had from a decent round of Battlefield Heroes, but it’s too plagued with niggles and problems for that to happen often enough.

I can see Heroes being rather popular, at least for a while. Someone somewhere is punching the air and whooping at their enjoyment of machine-gunning pseudo-Nazis while dressed like Elton John, but me, well, I'm hoping I'll soon move on to other, rather more evolved experiences.
Destructoid (Jun 27, 2009)
Opinions are divided on Battlefield Heroes' revenue format, but I was honestly hoping the whole microtransaction structure would work to its favor. An ideal version of Heroes would be as consistently addictive and intrinsically satisfying as a mindless grindfest like Maple Story, while still providing actual depth and intelligence provided by its essential FPS gameplay. As it stands, however, the game we've been presented with works against itself more often than it does not. Perhaps the inevitable flood of subsequent map, weapon and shop updates will provide more depth and replayability, but the I also fear the design may possess some intrinsic contradictions that no patch can fix. Battlefield Heroes is a highly recommended download if only because it is both free and a total blast for the first few hours, but you might be surprised at just how quick and easy it is to fall out of love with it.
Bit-Tech (Jul 02, 2009)
It’s free to play and we still aren’t interested in it – that says a lot about how shallow Battlefield Heroes is and how it compares to the other free games on the market. As a ten minute distraction, it works to some degree. As anything more than that - as an enjoyable experience that you might want to actually invest some decent amount of time in - it's unfortunately very disappointing and, we hope, not indicative of what DICE has planned for future Battlefield games.
