But as a player with no intention of handing over any money, Dark Orbit simply has content galore, an extraordinary interface given the business model, and there's certainly an active community to work alongside.
While the game can’t be compared or compete against the likes of EVE Online, DarkOrbit does offer an amazingly streamlined space adventure that is great for the casual gamer looking to stretch their wings in a space environment.
DarkOrbit works fine for casual gamers who just need some easy fun for a while, but I don't think it will appeal that much to hardcore gamers, who will probably feel disappointed by the game's simple plot and even more simple graphics. The connectivity issues I had while testing the game won't help either. DarkOrbit is a free, web game that challenges you to command a spaceship and wander around space in search of raw materials for your company. However, I don't think it's the kind of game you would spend hours playing.
From almost the word “go,” DarkOrbit is throwing out offers to make purchases with real money. It does almost nothing to ease players into the experience, and the game does far less to convince anyone to stick around. Not only do I discourage players from spending any real cash on extras, I simply cannot recommend anyone invest any time into the game. DarkOrbit is a mindless grind that should be sent out to space to die.
