The Entropy Cage
Description official description
Move over, ELIZA! The Entropy Cage is a hyperfiction game where the player takes on the role of a psychologist FOR computers, trouble-shooting glitchy behavior in critical minimally-artificially-intelligent subroutines who do all the work to keep future society moving along. Pressed back into emergency service following a mysterious suspension, the player's head-shrinker is presented with limited, programmatic options for diagnosing and repairing the confused scripts: initially empowered only to reseed them with new randomness, following dialogue with supervisor Jake the player's options expand to freezing their process, disconnecting from them and promoting them to carry on with advanced operator privileges.
This would be dry stuff but for the subroutines gradually demonstrating unexpected and uncontrollable emergent behaviour, reallocating system resources in the internecine pursuit of abstruse philosophical extremes. The player's choices over the course of the game inform one of a range of endings.
