First Over Germany is much more of an arcade game than it is a strategy game, so don't expect anything more from it. As an action game, though, it is quite fun, and the 25 missions available should certainly keep you playing for a while.
A tactical simulation of the bomber offensive
against Germany during World War II, it is relatively
detailed. However, game play becomes
somewhat tedious. Secret Weapons of the
Luftwaffe covers a similar subject
but in a more state-of-the-art fashion.
Overall, First Oyer Germany is an interesting product. It has adequate graphics and sound, but does not press the
limits of any computer's capabilities. It offers the kinds of excitement
garners have come to expect from a simulation,
but not the kind of
technical flash and
visual stimuli one associates
with the first
person viewpoint. The
real value of the program
is in taking on
the role of a WWII
bomber pilot and experiencing
in a compressed time
frame. Perhaps, the
toward this leader of
men and his responsibility
for the welfare of his crew is the most salient facet of
the experience. Any player that wants to know the human
factor of the air war will be interested in this game and those
who enjoyed 50 Mission Crush and B-24 will definitely want
to play this game.
