100 (Jul, 2005)
Your Commodore (Jun, 1990)
If you only ever buy one game for your 64 make it Rainbow Island.
Zzap! (Feb, 1992)
[Budget re-release] Gameplay is furiously addictive... everything moves so quickly, too considering the number of objects on screen at one time.
This conversion is awesome, containing all the best bits of the coin-op and some startling graphics and sound to boot!
Commodore Force (Mar, 1993)
[Cute to Kill round-up] Filled with amusing baddies, power-ups and heaps of fruit, RI also features one of the most original weapons ever seen in a computer game.Firing rainbows to dispose of foes and platforms is indescribably addictive. Two-player option aside, this is a near-perfect conversion in every conceivable respect.
Commodore Force (Aug, 1993)
[Coin-op conversion round-up] Playability honed to the point of perfection, a difficulty curve set on just the right side of manic and you have one of the best games around. C'est fantastique!
Zzap! (Sep, 1989)
Possibly the best game of its genre on the 64 at present.
Commodore Format (Apr, 1992)
Better than seeing a Cadbury's lorry overturn outside your house - and so cute that it'll make you feel as if you scoffed the lot! Cracking stuff indeed and well worth the wait for it to come out at a price even I'm prepared to pay!
You don't even need a 16- bit machine and lots of memory to play a highly accurate coin-op conversion! Graphics are on the blocky side, but are as close as you're gonna get considering the C64's resolution capabilities, and bright use of colour helps disguise any slight ugliness. A faithful rendition of the coin-op's music and lively little effects form a soundtrack that rounds off the game nicely.
Retrogaming History (Aug 29, 2008)
