Caesar's Palace 2000: Millennium Gold Edition does a pretty good job bringing the casino experience to the PlayStation. While some of the games are more intriguing than others, they all represent their real-life counterparts fairly well. The thing that makes the game not as entertaining as a real casino is that money is not exchanged. Then again, this may be a good thing.

All in all, Caesar’s Palace 2000 is one of those bizarre games that, while not really being all that amazing, might be worth a look if you’re always playing your Dreamcast games with mates – it IS a four-player game, after all. It’s not exactly the best Dreamcast game ever, but then it’s a game about a casino… what did you expect?

This was a really hard game to review. It pretty much does everything it intends to do, so one can't really knock it much for that. However, on the whole scheme of things, there are probably a few hundred other games that I would rather play that are currently available on PlayStation. If these casino games are your cup of tea -- then, by all means, check this game out.

There's some cheesy music and background voices, but you feel very alone playing this game. Everything is menu-driven, so you never see other people or view any scenery. Another complaint is how there's no in-game tutorial, so you'll need to read the manual to learn how to play the games. Caesar's Palace is not my idea of a good time on a Saturday night, but it wouldn't be a bad game to pick up before a trip to Vegas, just to get familiar with the games.

Kick it!

When all is said and done, Caesars Palace 2000 fails to bring the unique Caesars Palace experience to the PC. There's no excitement and there's no flow to the games. It might look and sound like a regular casino, but after a few hands you'll be itching to get to the real deal. Caesars Palace 2000 is simply not a realistic or exciting gambling experience and therefore cannot be recommended to those looking for such an encounter.

Actually, when I looked at the glitzy packaging Caesar's Palace 2000 arrived in, my first impression was less than positive. The game is billed as family entertainment, which frankly, I find a problem, but I am not going there, since this is just a review of a game. (If you want to read my article on gambling, go here.)

Caesars Palace 2000 isn't necessarily a bad casino game; in fact, casino-wise it's okay. It's just that game-wise there's practically nothing to it. There are a number of ways it could have been improved - online play is a no-brainer, as is VM support that would allow you to play simple games on the move. Otherwise, some kind of story - maybe having to win money to pay off the mob, or something along those lines. Until a gambling game like that comes along, you're better off buying a deck of cards or going to Las Vegas and playing with some real money.
DreamcastAll Game Guide (2000)
The above-par graphics are quickly negated by the rock-bottom enjoyment factor. Unfortunately, this game doesn't have any of the character the real casino has. In fact, there is hardly a casino theme to it at all. There isn't a buzz of sound and people winning all over, as there aren't people at all. Though you can play with other live people, you can't have computer characters sit in. If you really want a solid casino game, you might think about getting Hoyle Casino, which addresses everything bad about Caesars Palace and corrects it ten-fold.
DreamcastIGN (Oct 03, 2000)
There isn't one! It's unfortunate that in the year 2000, with all the technological feats and accomplishments that have been made over the last decade or so, that our gambling simulators are still this basic. Easily outclassed by the enormously entertaining Nintendo classic Vegas Dream, it would be a wiser bet to pop that old geezer in your console and give it a go. With better play mechanics, superior music, and far more personality than Caesar's Palace 2000, the odds are you'll have a lot more fun with the old school.
DreamcastGameSpot (Sep 26, 2000)
In the end, Caesar's Palace 2000 is a shoddy casino game and only rides the franchise name without making virtual use of it in the game. While the selection of gambling titles on the Dreamcast is slim in comparison to the PlayStation or the PC, the best bet for all involved would be to take your chips elsewhere.
WindowsPC Player (Germany) (Nov, 2000)
