Carcassonne is an adaptation of the German tile-based board game of the same name. Two to six players (which can be humans or AI-controlled) alternate placing tiles and followers on the board. The tiles display structures like roads, cities, cloisters and farmlands, which must match with neighbor tiles in order to be placed. Players score points (and reclaim followers, which are limited to eight per player) whenever they complete a structure with their own followers in it; farms and incomplete structures can only score points at the end of the game, when all tiles are placed.

The game is turn-based and supports multiplayer only in "hot seat" mode, in a single device -- no other online play or game mode is available. It comes with the core board game and one of its expansions ("The River II"); other packs ("Traders and Builders"; "Inns and Cathedrals"; etc.) can be bought at the game's store.
