Description
Cities in Motion 2 is a simulation of public traffic. While the
predecessor offered historical scenarios, this one is completely set in modern times and fictional cities. In contract to city simulations the player has no direct influence over city development; the task is to create a working public transportation system.
The player has the choice between six types of vehicles (buses, trams, metro, trolleys and water buses) which require a route and time-table in order to function. Of course one of the most important aspect of profitability is to watch the efficiency of the routes - empty drives, unnecessary stops or too convoluted routes only cause costs. In order to analyze the routes, the player can view various statistics or use filters on the map screen to see all important information. One of the new features is a day-night cycle, so it is important to not only consider the six social groups and their preferences (e.g. business people or tourists) but also aspects like shift working. Other opportunities to influence costs are earnings are ticket prices and wages. Besides the cash flow, the player's success is also measured in reputation which takes the people's experiences with the traffic system into account. The game is real-time in principle, but the flow of time can be paused or sped up at any time.
Overall the differences to the predecessor are mostly in details. The big new addition is the multiplayer mode which allows up to six players to participate in cooperative or competitive matches.
