DescriptionCommand & Conquer: Rivals is a mobile multiplayer-only real-time strategy game that has two players fight each other on a static map with a nuclear missile silo in the center. The silo is controlled by the player who has the most control pods (if units from both players are on the same control pod, it is contested until the units from at least one player move or die), and a single nuclear missile strike to a base damages it by half. Bases are static and their structures are node-based akin to those in Dark Colony, and they automatically generate Tiberium as the only in-game resource, which can be accelerated by purchasing Harvesters. Units are built once the base has the appropriate structure built in it, and the more units a player has, the more time it takes to build new ones. A player is represented by one of four (per faction) commanders, each with their own special ability.
The goal is to destroy the enemy base either by attacking conventionally or by striking it with a nuclear missile twice. Units and commanders are gradually unlocked through gameplay at pre-defined points, and can be upgraded using credits and cards that are obtained in lootboxes either through gameplay or the in-game store for real money. There is a finite number of slots that a player can use to form a "deck" of units to play with, which can be changed at will before any battle.
Initially, players go through a tutorial against AI bots, but after every tutorial matchup is finished, the game is played strictly against other players in "leagues", or rather tiers to which players are divided to as per their number of played matches and account level. Every new player starts only able to play as the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) faction, but will unlock the Brotherhood of Nod faction when their account reaches level 9. Players can form "alliances" within which they can trade cards, chat, and play against each other without resorting to use the auto-match system. Every match gains the player experience regardless of the outcome, and replays of every match can be shared with other players through the so-called "C&C TV" system that highlights high-tier matches.
For the first time in the series, the game is devoid of any narrative whatsoever, and has unit designs and commanders from almost the entire Tiberium universe, as it was officially envisioned to be an "all stars" game for that universe.
