The title references the British television series One Man and His Dog, a contest based around sheepdog trials. It began in 1976 and was a regular programme until 1999, followed by annual Christmas specials until 2012. It now lives on as a segment of the rural affairs programme Countryfile. Sequel
Clive Brooker wrote the sequel One Hand and His Droid II for ZX Spectrum, unaware that it had already lost its market share to more advanced computers at the time. Because of this, he was turned down by several publishers after he finished the game in April 1991. About ten years later, 05 August 2001, he released the game for free on his website.
