Crackdown 3 isn't an instant hit, but after a slow start it rapidly builds into an action-packed shooter with brilliant character control and movement. While orb collecting is the key for prolonged play, the campaign in Crackdown 3 is always entertaining and visually there's a lot to appreciate if you look at the bigger picture. Crackdown is back. Shame about the multiplayer Wrecking Zone, though.
Xbox OneThe Inner Circle Games Network (Feb 14, 2019)
Crackdown 3 suffers from many stereotypical open world sandbox issues, but underneath these issues was a game I legitimately enjoyed. It was a fun 15-hour romp through New Providence which had me thinking back to games like Saints Row that were just about having fun and blowing up bad guys. Not all games need to be heavy narrative games, sometimes just straight explosive fun can be a nice change of pace. If you have Xbox Game Pass and you enjoy sandbox games, then definitely give Crackdown 3 a spin.

Xbox OneVideo Chums (Feb 19, 2019)
Crackdown 3 is far from a bad game but it also isn't necessary in this day and age. That being said, if you want to feel nostalgic for sandbox games from a decade or so ago then it's definitely worth checking out.
Xbox OneWay Too Many Games (Feb 18, 2019)
Crackdown 3 is a relic of the past, it revels in its simplistic design, freedom of choice, and a time when gameplay was the focus over an emotional cinematic narrative driven story. It is a Crackdown game through and through and if you’re a big fan of Crackdown then that is exactly what you’re getting. However, things change, games evolve, and certain things are advanced upon because of new ideas and technology. Crackdown 3, while advancing upon the first in some ways, completely ignores the last twelve years of gaming evolution. Everything in Crackdown 3 has been done before, and in most cases, been done better. That doesn’t mean it is not fun, if you’re looking for the Expendables of the video game world then Crackdown 3 may give you some stupid fun. Just don’t expect anything mind blowing even with the aforementioned cloud powered destruction in the multiplayer.

Xbox OneTrueAchievements (Feb 14, 2019)
It's fitting that just days after Microsoft announced the name change of their internal production branch from Microsoft Studios to Xbox Game Studios, Crackdown 3's launch screen displays the old moniker. After a year of exciting studio acquisitions for the company in 2018 and a stronger push for first-party moving forward, Crackdown 3 is the last remnant of the bygone era of Smartglass, live-action/video game hybrids, and forced Kinect purchases. It survived the purge where Fable Legends and Scalebound did not, but even in its best moments, Crackdown 3's campaign feels like it was born too late.
Windows AppsGame Informer Magazine (Feb 15, 2019)
Sumo and Elbow Rocket’s insistence on treating a game from 2007 like a sacred text is strange. The original Crackdown was fresh and exhilarating, and bounding across the city as a superhuman agent was a thrilling sensation. Since then, a lot has happened in the genre. Developers have found ways to incorporate destruction into the action as they weave interesting choices and competent world-building into their narratives. Crackdown 3 aims far lower, and manages to hit that disappointing target.

Xbox OneGamesRadar (Feb 14, 2019)
Crackdown 3 is bonkers chaotic fun but also a case of wasted potential. The series deserved an iterative revival but instead, we have the tried-and-tested Crackdown backbone with remastered visuals and a touch more chaos, sadly squandering the promise of its few interesting additions in the process.
Xbox OneLink Cable Gaming (Feb 14, 2019)
I highly suggest knowing what you want to get out Crackdown 3 before taking the dive, because as it stands this is very much a ‘love it, or hate it’ type of game.
Windows AppsGameplay (Benelux) (Mar 01, 2019)
Windows AppsEdge (May, 2019)
The flimsiness of the multiplayer casts a harsher light on the campaign's brevity. At around 12 hours, Crackdown 3 might respect your time, but in its lack of ambition, it's hard to argue that it's worth the money - you could say it's the perfect advert for Game Pass. We'd be lying if we pretended we didn't have some fun with it. But it only works in the same way as McDonald's occasionally hits the spot: this is cheap, junk-food gaming that comes with a side-order of regret.
Xbox OneGameSpot (Feb 15, 2019)
Leaping high through the air across rooftops and collecting orbs--which still feature one of the all-time great sound effects--is fun and rewarding, because that pursuit has a direct correlation to further improving your jump height. Lifting large objects and chucking them at foes is likewise an entertaining alternative to typical gunfights. Just like in its predecessors, these two superpowers are the primary source of what entertainment there is to be had in Crackdown 3. But it soon becomes apparent that the game has little new to offer beyond cool destruction tech that never gets put to good use. It certainly delivers on letting you blow things up and jump around the city. However, a dozen years after the first Crackdown offered that same experience but failed to provide you with enough interesting content surrounding that, it's truly disappointing to see this latest iteration suffer from the very same problems.
Windows AppsGiant Bomb (Feb 14, 2019)
I don't think I'd call Crackdown 3 an awful game, but I would call it dated. I don't know enough about this specific game's development to know what happened here, but I do know that this specific game feels like something that would have been better received had it been released several years ago. At the same time, Crackdown 3 fits reasonably well on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service. Paying $60 for this thing would be downright foolish. It's short and bland on the campaign end and the two multiplayer modes aren't worth your time. But if you're already a subscriber to Microsoft's service and can play this for no additional charge, it's a passable little bit of junk food that might hold your attention for an afternoon or two.
Xbox OneGarage Band Gamers (Feb 26, 2019)
I’m not sure if too much of the budget bad been spent on recruiting everyone’s favorite fictitious POTUS Terry Crews (who was a huge part of the marketing campaign and offers his likeness and some one-liners to the main story), but the end result feels like a rehash of what was a memorable title from the Xbox 360 days with a slightly better paint job. Despite enjoying some of the chaos I caused during my solo experiences, I would not recommend purchasing Crackdown 3 at any price point and only embarking on the adventure if you subscribe to the Game Pass.
Windows AppsRock, Paper, Shotgun (Feb 14, 2019)
There's obviously a long and sad story to be told here. The tales of how it swapped development studios, of how it was supposed to be an Xbone launch title, why it never became the promised technical masterwork that made cloud-based processing a part of gaming. It reeks of development hell, as demoralising to play as I imagine it was to make. Yes, clearing a map of its icons can be readily distracting, and it fulfils this role at least. But that's no longer nearly enough. Although I'll say one thing for it, that shouldn't be underappreciated. It's fast travel is fast - it loads anywhere on the map incredibly quickly. Which would be a nice thought to end on, if I didn't add: it's just it's not that much fun when you get there.
