Bien que basé sur le moteur de Marathon II, Damage Incorporated possède son lot d'originalités. Les missions sont variées, l'environnement visuel et sonore impeccables. De quoi passer de bonne heures dans la peau d'un Marines.
True, the graphics aren't as sophisticated as Marathon's, but the weapons are fun. Best of all, each team member says different things to you on a mission. Vidiot, for instance, shouts," Good shooting, Marine! Better him than you, and certainly better him than me!" Random sound bites from group members keep you entertained during combat. All in all, Damage Inc. offers an interesting team twist and a good plot with a sense of humor.
I don't want to come off the wrong way, I actually liked this game. It utilizes an engine and an environment that I really assumed was beyond use, and Damage Inc. proved me wrong. The game offers functionality that we have, until now, only had in a two dimensional game...and it works. However, the game needs some polish. The sprites and textures are too blocky, there's obviously a few performance bugs that should be ironed out, and there are a few MacOS issues that should be fixed (that's asking very little actually). I really believe this is a great game. If it receives just a little maintenance, it will be an excellent game.
Compared with other games based on the Marathon engine--including MacSoft's own Prime Target--Damage Incorporated is mediocre. It's a valiant attempt to advance the first-person shooter genre by incorporating a strategic element, but poor design and uneven implementation sabotage it.
