Xbox 360games xtreme (Jun 02, 2009)
Damnation could have been a pretty good contender a year or so ago, however, with the newest game engines, prettier graphics of other games and the fact that Vertical Combat isn't exactly a new thing since the Tomb Raider games evolved and we've seen a lot of true VC in CAPCOM's Dark Void videos. Damnation deserves kudos for trying a hard genre, a hard game style and attempting to add a fresh new coat of paint to an old painting. It just doesn't quite work...a case of too little and definitely too late. It is a fun (at times) and quirky game though that's worth persevering with, despite the bugs.

Xbox 360Official Xbox Magazine (UK) (May 20, 2009)
But indie or not, it still costs forty quid, and Damnation's platforming - it's strongest suit - is only just strong enough to carry you through.

Xbox 360Play Magazine (Jun 09, 2009)
Damnation was either going to succeed or fail on an epic level. Unfortunately, the latter applies. Blue Omega’s vision is buried under so many layers of clumsy gameplay and painful cinematics that the glimmers of the game that could have been just can’t stem the tide. It’s certainly worth renting to see what might have been, or buying at a discount price, but otherwise, Kevin, Will, Eric and Selma—you can come out now.

PlayStation 3Worth Playing (May 26, 2009)
Damnation is not a good game by any stretch of the imagination, and gamers accustomed to the top thirty percent of contemporary titles may well be appalled with it. I can only recommend Damnation to anyone who has a very particular special interest in alternative history, especially concerned with the American Old West. Even then, rent it first. But the worst thing that could come out of Damnation is that its flaws prevent Blue Omega from applying their prodigious collective imagination to a better sophomore project: something primed for the spit and polish their work deserves.

WindowsGameStar (Germany) (May 22, 2009)

WindowsGamers.at (May 22, 2009)

Xbox 360Good Game (Jun 01, 2009)
The overpowered enemies make using melee and the shotgun pointless. And any game that makes those two things pointless, has its priorities wrong...I’m giving it 5.5/10

Xbox 360Good Game (Jun 01, 2009)
In fact the jibs are out of sync as well, I’ve never seen a grenade make an enemy simply fall apart instead of blow off in a direction before...At least there’s lots of windows to jump through Jung, and I do I quite like this type of science fiction , but it’s not done justice here, I’m giving it 5.5/10.

Xbox 360ZTGameDomain (2009)
Damnation is the type of game I am most disappointed in simply because it really is trying to push the genre forward. The execution kills it almost instantly the first time you try to take down an enemy. The level designs are definitely unique and online co-op is a huge bonus, but neither of these are going to elevate this title past the tag of mediocrity. I really hate to say this, but I don't recommend Damnation for more than a rental until the price drops substantially. There just isn't enough here to make up for the numerous mistakes it makes, thus eliminating most of the enjoyment that could have been.

Xbox 360AceGamez (2009)
As bad as many aspects of Damnation are, it still somehow has a bizarrely unique charm. By sheer scope and ambition alone, it becomes a borderline playable gaming experience that can be strangely compelling if you are willing to look past the myriad bugs and serious graphical flaws. Sadly however, the majority of gamers just won't be that lenient - and why should they be? Damnation is an unfinished game, a concept with good ideas and a real sense of scale but terrible implementation in almost every way.

Xbox 360Destructoid (Jun 22, 2009)
Damnation is not exactly a terrible game. As a shooter, it does the bare minimum required to be considered competant. It's just incredibly mediocre and pointless that it's made me wonder exactly how games like this even get the green light. There is simply no good reason for Damnation to exist. In fact, by the time this review is ready to post, I'll have forgotten that it ever had done.

PlayStation 33D Juegos (May 27, 2009)

Xbox 360XboxAchievements (Jun 24, 2009)
It is not just a clever title, as Damnation seems more than willing to live up to its name. The game is glitchy, ugly and just not enough fun at all. Even in co-op you will struggle to glean much enjoyment and I had fun playing Fuzion Frenzy 2 with other people. This is a rental at the absolute best and even then you had better have played pretty much everything else beforehand.

Xbox 360Console Monster (Jun 13, 2009)
Blue Omega Entertainment set out with a clear goal, to change the First Person Genre with a mix of FPS and Acrobatics; unfortunately Damnation falls short on both counts and leaves gamers wanting their money back. Damnation is definitely not worth the £29.99 price tag, but may be worth a Blockbuster Rent.

Xbox 360MS Xbox World (Jun 16, 2009)
And on that note, I’m afraid to say that even the alternate steampunk western universe cannot save the rigid, repetitive, and simply mundane experience offered by Damnation. I’d recommend anyone to avoid this game, unless you’re really missing the classic action-adventure genre.

WindowsAdrenaline Vault, The (AVault) (Dec 17, 2009)
For the most part, Damnation is a disaster, including bad AI behavior, sloppy programming and abominable voice acting. But despite all of its flaws, I found myself strangely drawn to the game. The graphics are occasionally impressive, the maps are expansive and creatively designed, and the developer even managed to throw in a few plot twists to keep things interesting. It doesn’t quite rise to the level of a guilty pleasure, but there’s just enough good in the game to make it worth the journey.

Xbox 360Gamervision (Jun 12, 2009)
I really wanted Damnation to be good. It had all kinds of potential when the only information about the game was the screenshots. After playing it for a few days, I’m sad to say that not only did the game not live up to what it could have been, it actually lowered the bar for any other steampunk western that follows; though I can’t see too many developers jumping at the chance to outdo this game. The one positive I can take away from my experience is that Damnation has made me more excited for Red Dead Redemption, because at least with Rockstar, there’s a chance the game won’t suck this hard.

PlayStation 3GamingXP (May 26, 2009)
Schade eigentlich.

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Damnation – despite its failings it has a certain hokey charm. You can see where the ideas came from and what they could have been had it all gelled together. Damnation might have been something to write home about last generation, but as it is things have moved on too far and it feels like an unpolished, cobbled together and unfinished console game. You’ve played its like in any number of Tomb Raider games and there’s nothing new or compelling enough here to warrant attention.

It seems the thought process behind Damnation was something along the lines of: Gears is a good game, let's do a Gear knock off, but our USP will be a Tomb Raider platform mechanic. It's ill-thought from the very start, which is demonstrated by the contradictions and flaws evident throughout the entire game.

Xbox 360TeamXbox (Jun 13, 2009)
I gave Damnation as much of a try as I could, but it never rose above its many flaws to be enjoyable. It had the potential, but anything that showed flair was quickly buried by more clumsy dialogue or stilted character movement. I can’t even recommend that you try it as a rental.

Luckily there's one positive note to be said about this game! The box art looks truly amzain and maybe the interest gamers showed in the setting will drive other devs that Steampunk or other original settings are viable. Nonetheless, do your fellow gamer a favor if you see this title in your local game shop: hide it behind some other top title or throw it in the bargain bin!

Xbox 360Cheat Code Central (2009)
In the end, Damnation really is a sad story. The game had an interesting concept and a good amount of potential but it just never came together. It is really unfortunate to see it fail in just about every aspect because even if it had gotten one thing right, be it platforming, shooting, multiplayer, or its storyline, perhaps it could have still found an audience happy to check it out. However, as it is I can’t imagine anyone enjoying their time spent with this game.

Xbox 360Gaming Age (Jun 18, 2009)
It pains me to write reviews like this. I thought we were far beyond this point in the gaming industry to green light such tripe, let alone at a full price tag to boot. If this is the best that Codemasters can produce in the action genre, please, let's hope they stick to racing.

WindowsCheat Happens (Jun 02, 2009)
Some games are built on promise – it seems that Damnation was built more on lies than anything else. While fans of the Tomb Raider series may find something nostalgic in the title, other gamers are urged to stay away. Want a game based on movement and momentum? Try your hand at Mirror’s Edge or Prince of Persia.

Damnation is unfortunately an awful example of a next generation game, in fact it is an awful example of a last generation game. Avoid this at all costs, well unless you have more money than sense that is.
30
PlayStation 3AceGamez (2009)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, come to think of it, represents the logical conclusion of every ill-executed mechanic that Damnation counts as its box-quote bread and butter. Already eighteen months old, Naughty Dog's bleeding-edge PS3 debut leaves Damnation looking borderline unplayable in comparison - and the technology clock has been ticking ever onwards during that whole time. Uncharted has in spades all the things Damnation that flubs: polish, production value, design, narrative, satisfying gunplay, exciting adventure and damn it, a little charisma, which, the final nail in its coffin, Damnation fails even to approximate. Then again, better to have aimed for the heavens and missed than to have hit a more down-to-earth target... right?

As you plough deeper into the steampunk setting it becomes painfully obvious that the plot is the same, timeless, good-versus-evil guff that you've heard a hundred times before. It all adds up to one (excuse the pun) epic failure.
30
WindowsGamesRadar (May 27, 2009)
It’s hard to believe that Damnation – in all its glitchy, twitchy, and downright fugly glory – was created by the same tech that gave life to Bioshock, Mass Effect and Gears of War. Now, we can forgive the fact that it looks like Gears swallowed a Western and promptly vomited it back out, half digested.
30
WindowsEdge (Jun, 2009)
The game's ambition far outstrips its creator's abilities: damned by execution rather than intent, but damned nonetheless.

Xbox 360Eurogamer.net (UK) (May 20, 2009)
Even after looking for a glimmer of quality, hoping that there'd be some redeeming feature to balance out this avalanche of weary criticism, Damnation offers little to which to cling. At best, it's a functional third-person platformer that sometimes acts like a shooter. At worst, it's an astonishing collection of poor design decisions, half-hearted implementation and mindless narrative clutter that will only lead to buyer's remorse in all who decide to give it a try.
25
PlayStation 3IGN (May 29, 2009)
There's no reason for you to play Damnation. It fails at being a worthwhile title on all fronts. The gameplay isn't fun, the levels are too long, the sound is bad, and the story isn't interesting. There are more problems, but I'll leave my written flogging at that.
25
Xbox 360Play.tm (Jun 23, 2009)
None of the design appears to be in sync. Damnation strikes you as an unconfident, unconvincing effort, and the only possible conclusion is that Blue Omega lack a basic grasp on the fundamentals. Blue Omega have proudly stated that much of Damnation's content has been outsourced: the result is a badly managed travesty of game design. With no cohesive, creative vision the game simply falls flat. Epic in ambition alone, Damnation should never have been published, and somebody, somewhere, should have been polite enough to take the source code and delete it a long time ago.

20
Xbox 360Kombo.com (Jul 10, 2009)
I always look for redeeming factors in games and try to understand why a bad game ended up as it did. With Damnation, I don't know that it was ever on the right track. The game is a total mess. I don't want to be disrespectful to those that undoubtedly worked hard to put the game out on store shelves, but there comes a point when you need to be honest and just say it like it is; there's no reason to play Damnation either alone or online.
20
PlayStation 3TheSixthAxis (Jun 12, 2009)
With Codemasters publishing this title you would expect a decent end product. But as it stands this game is in need of a new title, such as “Damn-we fluffed that one”. I cannot recommend this game at all, and would be doing an injustice to you the reader by not telling you how bad an experience this title will more than likely give you. With so many great titles arriving in the coming months, do yourself a favour and save your hard earned money for something more worthwhile.

PlayStation 3Boomtown (Jun 10, 2009)
Frankly Damnation is a real mess. There seem to be many problems that were not found by testing or just ignored. The acting is poor, the AI is poor, the combat is poor. There's nothing here that implies the game has any potential. In my mind it's a candidate for worst game of the year and in we're only in June.

PlayStation 3D+PAD Magazine (Jun 01, 2009)
So, though still far from perfect (or particularly pleasurable, come to that), it’s the platforming elements of Damnation that are – surprisingly, in fact - the game’s highlight. But when they’re the best part of an otherwise broken game, what does it matter? Blue Omega certainly has the vision, but evidently lacks the talent to do it justice. Damnation indeed.

Xbox 360ActionTrip (Jun 22, 2009)
Hey, you can always rent this and marvel at the fact how stupid the AI conducts itself during combat. It made me laugh quite a few times, so maybe in some part of the universe this can be construed as a good thing. This side of the galaxy, however, it can be described using two words: major cock-up.

Xbox 360The Review Busters (2009)
I am getting so sick of tired of all these games that looked good a few years ago and now they are at the bottom of the sea. Damnation really is as bad as everyone is saying. The only thing I am going to say to finish off this review is one simple sentence. I now have more respect for the Playstation 3 game Lair.
