Dead Meets Lead is set in 1716 on the island El Mirando. This island fell under a curse which caused it to be inhabited by evil creatures. Now the player takes the role of a captain who has to cleanse the island...

The gameplay is simple: moving through the levels and and using the standard attack to keep away the enemy hordes. An especially powerful special attack (depending on the used weapon) can be activated by pressing another button, but this costs rage points. Those points (along with money) are gained by killing enemies.

The game knows no checkpoint system or manual saves; it only saves between levels. Also between levels the player can use money to unlock new weapons, all in all three melee and four ranged ones.
