DescriptionIn the action game Devil Eater the player controls the male character Robert. Someone dear to him called Elise has been kidnapped and he has been cursed. To get rid of the curse, find Elise and prevent the demonic force from taking over, he needs to purify five cities and kill all demons inside. For the entire game Robert is on a stationary position on the left side of the screen and cannot be moved. Demons appear from the right side and attempt to take him out. There is a gun icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. By tapping and holding Robert fires continuously, killing and damaging enemies. After ten hits a powerful skillshot is loaded, it can be activated by tapping an icon above the gun.
Demons often appears in waves and they will get close or use ranged attacks. Therefore Robert cannot fire all the time and has to use a guard bottom in the bottom left side of the screen by tapping and holding. The game also supports counters. By timing guard correctly and only activating it at the last moment, a powerful counter move is performed. Three counter attacks in succession makes available a very strong counter attack.
Health is shown through a meter near the top of the screen. Each hit drains an amount and when the meter is empty the game is over. After a number of enemies a boss appears that needs to be defeated to move on to the next level. The game has two types of currencies, of which gold is the most important one to progress. After each session and by completing objectives gold is provided. It is used to purchase upgrades that improve the characteristics attack, speed and defence. After some upgrade levels a new type of attack is usually unlocked. Next to the default pistol, other types of weapons such as Magnum, a Duel Revolver or an Anaconda gun can be bought for gold. They do more damage than the regular gun. The other currency, silver character tokens, is used to unlock customes with new abilities. Both currencies can be earned in-game.
The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases for items, gold and weapons. Players can view ads for additional gold, to double the earned gold or to receive a white fairy that helps blocking incoming attacks. There is no energy/stamina system with waiting times. By buying upgrades the character gets stronger and it becomes easier to progress through the game's early parts. A later update adds a world map to choose a starting point instead of having to replay the entire game every time.
