Disney's Animated Storybook: The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a game for children aged three to nine based on the 1996 animated movie. It uses both the characters from the original story (Esmeraldo, Frollo, Phoebus, Quasimode ...) as well as the new ones introduced by Disney such as Hugo, Laverne and Victor. The story is told through several narrated scenes. The text is shown and difficult words are highlighted. The game is introduced by the hand puppet Clopin. There are several voices and songs directly from the movie. During the story six mini-games can be played and these can also be accessed separately, out of the story.
In one mini-game Quasimodo needs to be cheered up by composing a tune on bells with the gargoyles. In another it is possible to sing along to French songs or balancer a specific number of chickens on a tightrope walker's bar. Quasimodo also needs to help Esmeralda down the cathedral, the gargoyles need to defend the cathedral by dropping crates on the heads of soldiers, and Phoebus unlocks the key of Esmeralda's necklace to find the secret hideout of the gypsies.
