WindowsThis Is My Joystick (Feb 03, 2011)
This conclusion hasn’t been a very difficult one for me and not just because I like RPG’s. It’s not very often that a developer goes back to right a few wrongs, having realised that they have made a few mistakes and then tried to rectify them, and this is where Larian Studios have excelled. Not only have they fixed issues that plagued the original port, but by changing the game engine and adding a further adventure to the series, they’ve made this above what the original should have been. Even if you have played through Ego Draconis before, it’s still worth playing again as it feels like a fresh, new adventure. People new to the series will have no issues with picking up the easy control scheme and hardcore RPG fans will love the challenge with some of the harder difficulty settings. As far as packages go, this game has more gameplay, fun and excitement than most games in the last five years and is well worth its price tag.

While Divinity II: DKS isn't the prettiest game on the Xbox 360, it's certainly one of the best RPGs I have ever played on the console. And to let my inner nerd show, if Fable 3 is Dungeons & Dragons, then Divinity II:DKS is Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Special Edition. Yep, it's just that good. Hats off to Larian Studios, I await your next surprise with baited breath.

In a year featuring Din’s Curse, Puzzle Quest 2, Mass Effect 2, Eschalon Book II and more (Ed. note: including the original release of Divinity II!) … Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga is my favorite RPG from 2010. I thoroughly enjoyed the original game, and found the add-on a thrill to work through. I have already started again to replay as a pure warrior, since I played my prototypical mage first. If you were on the fence about this game, don’t hold back anymore – this is definitely worth playing.

The game has multiple weaknesses still, but none seriously damper the experience. In the end, this is a highly polished and smooth title CRPG fans should be eager to add to their collection alongside other greats like Dragon Age and Risen.

WindowsPC Invasion (INC Gamers) (Nov 22, 2010)
For listening to criticism and revisiting an imperfect game, Larian Studios deserves high praise. The team has turned what appears to have been a near-miss into a triumphant re-release. It's so rare to find writing this strong in an RPG, let alone one with a fantasy theme, that it should be cherished. DKS is smart, open and freeform enough to let the player experiment and explore for themselves in a way which many other games fail to deliver. Moreso than any other European-style fantasy RPG released this year, The Dragon Knight Saga deserves your attention.

It came as a bit of a surprise to me, but Divinity 2 is one of the best RPGs I’ve played for a while. It certainly stands head and shoulders above Fallout: New Vegas and I can’t remember any other RPGs recently that came close to the level of entertainment that Divinity 2 managed to deliver. The Dragon Knight Saga combines a re-mastered ‘Ergo Draconis’ with the ‘Flames of Vengeance’ add-on and makes it one smooth experience. The game looks, feels and plays brilliantly and should easily keep you occupied for a good 60-100 hours, depending on how quickly you rush through it. The game can be purchased for £29.99 on Steam, or £29.95 on Gamers Gate, which is worth it if you enjoy this sort of game. Otherwise, grab it at the first opportunity that they offer it on sale again – as it’s a must-buy for any fan of RPGs.

Divinity II is simply a great game. While there might be some odd little shortfalls that pop up that keep it from the halls of true greatness, there really is just so much going for it in the way of immersive world and enjoyable gameplay that it is worth exploring. With the newest addition of Fable seemingly falling as flat as it did it is always good to know that there are other developers out there more than able to make the same type of game just as well. Simply writing this review has made me want to go back and play even more of the game.

If you loved the original game, you'll enjoy the sequel and it's a great port from the PC to the XBox 360. The story may be clichéd and over the top but its gameplay is relatively quite good. It's definitely not the most original game of the year but if it isn't broke, don't fix it and Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga abides by this rule. Another traditional RPG that doesn't push the boundaries but offers purists a fun few hours of escapism. Entertaining from start to finish!

Xbox 360Made2Game (Nov 12, 2010)
Divinity 2: The Dragon Knight Saga ticks all of the right boxes for a great fantasy action RPG but fails to pull through on a couple of crucial areas, however it is an entertaining game that will fill in the gap between Fallout New Vegas and Dragon Age 2.

It doesn't do anything new with the formula, and as polished as it is this predictability may limit your overall enjoyment. But The Dragon Knight Saga offers a huge amount of traditional RPG questing, and it's very easy to lose yourself - and hours of you day - enjoying its world.

If you can get over the combat issues, Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is an interesting purchase. Though by no means a perfect RPG, it delivers a lot of content - especially for the price. Hardcore RPG fans, particularly those looking for an "old fashioned" RPG, should really give Dragon Knight Saga a look.

Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is a game that’s worthy of anyone’s gaming shelf. The sheer length of the main quest line makes it value for money, then there’s the amount of time and effort that clearly went into it’s development. Yes, there are certain point where it’ll frustrate beyond all imagination, but that just makes it feel all the more epic when you get to those really good bits because you know that some people will have given up on it, but YOU didn’t. You stuck with it and look at you now. Spread those wings Dragon Knight. Be the legend.

In Dragon Knight Saga, rest assured that all of the issues found in Ego Draconis are fixed. New comers to the Divinity series should pick up the game, as I guarantee that it will offer you a classic, enjoyable RPG experience. If you’ve played Ego Draconis before, there would be no reason for you to purchase Dragon Knight Saga unless the Flame of Vengeance expansion is of interest to you. Overall, if you like an RPG that gives you a classic experience with over 100 hours of gameplay, look no further than Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga. If Ego Draconis didn’t get much attention when it was released, it’s time for everyone to look into this title.

WindowsMeristation (Nov 07, 2010)

As Divinity II: Ego Draconis hasn’t been left untouched and it also comes with the brand new Flames of Vengeance, The Dragon Knight Saga is excellent value for money. As a whole, Divinity II: Ego Draconis and its expansion may come across as old fashioned and too difficult for some, although fans of similar RPG’s will mostly likely fall in love with the package, and it will be a love affair that will last for hours, days, weeks, and possibly months.

Downsides? Not least the lengthy loading times that occur as you leave houses and dungeons. 30 seconds is not unusual. The plot is hardly a classic too. Despite this there is much to love here. Traditional it may be but Divinity 2 Dragon Knight Saga is an excellent RPG that is up there with the very best on the Xbox 360.

This is definitely an improved version over the original, so kudos to Larian for the extra work they've put in. The game does do a pretty good job at fixing the technical problems, the extra content is welcome, and the pacing is improved so that you don't get stuck all the time. This is definitely a game for hardcore RPG fans, so if you haven't tried it already, this is definitely worth a go.

Whether or not you should buy DKS all depends on the original. The expansion pack might tempt those who enjoyed the first, but it’s difficult to justify the repurchase of the original game. However, if you did miss the game first time around, then it’s definitely worth your attention. It might not break away from convention, but this is the game that Ego Draconis should have been.

It boils down to this: if you are looking to play a game for 10 hours or so, Divinity II is not a very good option. It's really for those who are looking for a 60-80 hour, life-consuming experience and have a high tolerance for system limitations. This is certainly the best version to get, and it's priced right for what it is.

Judged on its own, Flames of Vengeance isn’t that tempting, although the price is decent for an expansion pack. But the Dragon Knight Saga is a very good package, especially for those who didn’t play the original in the first place. You get an improved Ego Draconis with balance tweaks, better graphics and loot, plus the add-on which offers some closure to the story.

WindowsHooked Gamers (Nov 17, 2010)
When the dust of unpolished graphics, inconsistent voice acting and questionable design choices has settled, what you are left with is the story. The engaging plot and the colorful characters are more then enough to keep you playing for hours. The quests are very varied and entertaining and even the most unimportant side quest will give you satisfaction once completed. The game world is filled with humor, some intelligent, some downright silly. The writing on the whole is, save for a few inconsistencies, absolutely sublime and I hereby extend an open invitation to the writers behind this game to join me in a D&D session whenever they find themselves in Denmark.

I have to say that I enjoyed Divinity II- Dragon Knight Saga quite a bit more than most other titles I played last year. Lush and beautiful level design, well written story, and a great combat engine make this a title well worth its price. I highly recommend to anyone who plays RPG’s to pick this one up as soon as possible. Its deep and engrossing plot will keep you entertained for quite a while, and I cannot stress how much fun it is to destroy an entire military base as a giant flying fire breathing lizard. Loot hounds like myself will find no end to the plunder that can be plucked from chests and dungeon crawling. Pick this one up and take the dragon for a spin.

Xbox 360ZTGameDomain (Apr 18, 2011)
In the end, Divinity II: Dragon Knight Saga is a huge package for the price. The combat may be on the wonky side, and the difficulty may drag you down a little, but the RPG elements and overall story is actually really enjoyable. The game, as a whole, surprised me. I will recommend this game to the hardcore RPG players. Just keep an open mind, save often and most importantly, be patient. If you do those things, you will have a pretty good time with the customization and level progression.

Xbox 360IGN (Apr 19, 2011)
The Xbox 360 version of The Dragon Knight Saga is a game slightly better than the sum of its parts. While its graphics are subpar for a modern game, the combat is fast-paced and fun. It feels much better with the 360 controller rather than the mouse-and-keyboard setup of the PC version, especially with auto-aim being this forgiving. Although the expansion is a bit weaker than the core game, the total package is well worth the price of admission. If you haven't touched Divinity II at all and you enjoy action-RPGs, you won't be disappointed with the Xbox 360 version.
74
Xbox 360411mania.com (May 23, 2011)
The complete Dragon Knight Saga will offer dozens of hours of quests and exploration between the main game and expansion, meaning action-RPG fans won’t be bored for a while. While the battles may seem unfair quite often, once you get powered up they can become a breeze. The game may not advance the genre any, but it’s a solid experience throughout.

Thanks to its rich variety of quest types, nicely worked progression mechanics and expansive, often pretty game world, we really rather enjoyed this. The improvements mean this is now well worth a look, especially with the bonus content.

Xbox 360Brash Games (Dec 17, 2010)
As an overall experience however, if you’re willing to put in the hours to fight through the tedium of the games opening, and overcome the inevitable issues you’ll undoubtably uncover, there is a diamond in the rough here: an old-school RPG with unexpected depth and moments of utter genius. It combines tried-and-tested gaming principles with some clever experimentation and truly gob-stopping amounts of content, and if you’re part of the audience it caters too, I’m sure you’ll happily forge your way through the 200+ hours of epic gaming to be had. If, like me, you’re not quite that dedicated, you probably won’t get quite that far, but it’s still hard not to come to admire the wondrous, if rather flawed, magnum opus that is the Dragon Knight Saga.

WindowsEurogamer.nl (Nov 13, 2010)

Xbox 360GamePro (US) (Apr 19, 2011)
While it shows significant improvement over its previous release, Divinity II's visuals and gameplay still lack the level of polish we've come to expect from this generation's entries. Additionally, if you played Divinity II on the PC or slogged through the inferior 360 port, there's probably not enough here to recommend. However, if this budget release -- it costs just 40 gold pieces -- serves as your introduction to the series and you've been jonesing for some Skyrim-priming questing, I suggest you head to the stretching world of Rivellon for a rewarding adventure that'll keep your blade bloody and your inventory brimming.
70
Xbox 360MS Xbox World (Nov 22, 2010)
Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is a challenging title to judge. On one side this combo game set is bulging with well conceived quests and some striking dialogue sequences, but on the other the games fail to really meet the presentation and playability standards of this generation of games - Fallout 3 and Dragon Age also offer a lot of well produced content but manage to keep their interfaces mostly integral and their combat systems gripping. If it was just Divinity II then I could only really see this game being a worthy purchase for hardcore long-term RPG lovers, but there's some great content that could easily get overlooked here. I'd say if you can get used to the last-generation graphics, a clumsy interface, and you don't mind very basic and uneventful combat systems then you'll be receiving a lot of memorable content for your money.

Xbox 360GameZone (May 02, 2011)
Although the graphical improvements are appreciated, newcomers expecting a visual powerhouse shouldn’t get their hopes up. A good number of glitches can still be found, visual inconsistencies being one of the most striking. Your overall perception of Rivellon’s scope isn’t quite the same as a Bethesda RPG—it’s a limited field of view, despite the actual grandeur of the world. And the audio performs convincingly in most spots but is largely unremarkable. The Dragon Knight Saga might be a significant step up from its first incarnation, but some heavy retooling is required before it can really take to the skies. Future efforts should focus on cultivating the game’s strengths and maybe offering something bolder and more distinctive to reinvigorate tired fans of the genre.

Xbox 360RPGamer (Apr 18, 2011)
Ultimately, The Dragon Knight Saga is a game at odds with itself. Its solid writing and quest design has to contend with balance issues and a myriad of other minor problems such as a sporadic autosave function that feels more like an afterthought. Despite that, it's still surprisingly fun to play, and as the game can easily provide eighty hours of content, it offers a lot of value for your dollar. Forty dollars is a steal for an Xbox 360 game, so if you're looking for a WRPG fantasy to tide you over in the lull between Dragon Age 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga is a good choice.

The Dragon Knight Saga may be a little rough around the edges and seem like a poor man's Oblivion, but there's enough here to interest fans of Western RPGs and, although it can be totally frustrating at times, it's the sort of game that draws you back in to see just what that next cave around the corner might have in the form of enemies and loot.
