At first, Bad Blood seems limited because of the sameness of the early gameplay, and the simple command system that is used. Given some time, however, things soon hot up and the game provides some solid, long term entertainment.
Bad Blood is an enjoyable, simplified, action-oriented RPG. The background tunes (via Roland, Adlib and Game Blaster soundcards) add atmosphere, as do the effective VGA graphics displaying a batch of monsters, mutants, the wreckage of old cities, etc. Definitely one to unwind with after a hard stint playing Ultima VI.

PC Leisure (Sep, 1990)
It's this combat factor that really lowers the game: okay, it's a hostile world, but sometimes it borders on the extreme with creatures coming in from all sides. Surprisingly, Bad Blood is devoid of all the usual 'free gifts' that accompany most RPGs these days, coming with just the instruction booklet and a creature guide (used for copy protection). There are no dishcloth maps or 'gold' coins - it's quite a welcome change for a game to rely solely on itself. But while it doesn't do that bad a job overall, it's really only worth it if you've got the money to spare.
However, all of this pales to insignificance in light of the fact that there is no compelling reason to play Bad Blood and several reasons not to. Wasteland handles the post-nuclear milieu more effectively; Ultimas IV, V, and VI tell better adventure stories; Infocom's Trinity tells a (much) more sophisticated and responsible nuclear story (although the skink may be the turkels without overkill); Nintendo-style "adventure" games offer better combat action without pretending to be something they are not. Bad Blood is nothing if not well-intended, but it fails for want of a spark of innovation, either in the story or the gameplay.
