    When Melissa Van Helsing invited me up to her daddy's penthouse to reward me for that merc job, I admit I had something other than money in mind, but getting bitten and turned into a vampire wasn't it. Seems there's a whole gang of these bloodsuckers, and they want me to join them. Their mistake. This time they've bitten off more than they can swallow. No way I'll follow old Van Helsing's commands. I'll see him and his whole gang dead, permanently, for what they've done to me. But first I have to find a cure for this curse. Somewhere in this lousy city, somebody knows something that can help me. Maybe in the labs at TransTechnicals, the rotten megacorporation that practically runs this town. Maybe in the Underground, among the rogue genetechs and cyberscientists who work on the razor's edge of technology. And maybe in Cyberspace, the bizarre virtual reality that links everyone on the datanet, legal and illegal. And I can't forget Deirdre Tackett, the nervenet angel who installed my neural implant and saved my life. Van Helsing's kidnapped her, and it's only a matter of time before she gives him the secret of Incubus, the ultimate icebreaker, the key to absolute control of cyberspace. Somehow, I must save her. Van Helsing. I'll get that creep if I have to hack my way through every decker, rage ganger, and security ICE in Manhattan. He'll wish he'd never heard of Ransom Stark.
