David Wolf is a completely absorbing game. The story is fast moving, David does a good impression of a witty, debonair James Bond and the story is not bad for an action adventure. However, it's the use of actors and digitised graphics which set it apart from every other game of its kind. It gives the game a very adult atmosphere. I even prefer it to the Cinemaware products which are always very cartoon-like in comparison. Buy David Wolf - Secret Agent, you won't be disappointed.
Dragon (Feb, 1990)
We set the game's difficulty level at medium and were able to complete the entire game in just a couple of hours. Dynamix has tried something new by using actual actors digitized into a game. They should, however, have put more thought into the actual game concept rather than trying to make a movie. We have learned that future interactive releases do involve the player in far more action sequences.
Alas, the sheer joy wears thin after a while, and neither the action nor the movie is strong enough to rescue David Wolf. What Dynamix has done with David Wolf, Secret Agent has probably taken the genre about as far as it can go. Unfortunately, the problem is that the genre makes for games that you won't want to play or watch twice. Despite this inherent limitation, David Wolf is unique and worth a look for only one reason: it is visually stunning and executed with flair.
