Description
Hamsters is a
Lemmings variant, with the player again in charge of issuing instructions to individual members of a stream of little rodents toward the goal of ushering them toward a level exit (through 83 levels in the registered version!) and their continued survival, all under a time limit. Some of the 12 hamster activity types are highly reminiscent of those of Lemmings -- Sleepers, Jack-Hammerers and Burrowers Down are just renamed from the original -- while others, as in
Shoujo Attack! have been assigned more whimsical abilities than in their predecessor, the Catapulter, Sticky Roller and Anti-Gravity Hamster among them.

Freeware release
The game's author has since re-released it as freeware, and the full, registered version can be enjoyed at GameHippo (see the links page).
Inspiration
In the documentation, the author finally arrives at a genre name for Lemmings clones:
I loved Lemmings(tm), Oh No More Lemmings and Lemmings 2 - The Tribes; and thus thought that it would be a fun programming project to venture into the field of "Interactive Rodent Simulations" (IRS). There are many flight simulators and many football simulators, but only a few rodent simulators. I felt that this is a highly neglected and important facet of computer simulation
that should not be lightly touched upon. So, Psygnosis has some competition in the Interactive Rodent Simulation field, at last.
