Another Westwood RPG, and of course I'm hopelessly stuck AGAIN. Will they ever learn? Wait... Will I ever learn?
This time it's actually in the beginning of the game already. For the second time now I've walked into an area where there simply isn't any exit. But there's traps and loot, so I'm definitely supposed to be there (right?).
The first time I got stuck this way was in level 2, but luckily I had a save from shortly before.
But now I have it again. I'm in level 3 "Huline Jungle". And I was exploring and found some hidden shrine with a trap and some loot. But there's no way out of the area. there's a waterfall too high to climb. Another ledge too high to climb and a tiny tunnel for which I need to be in lizard form, which only happens and a river of instant-death.
Is this game just some grudge against people who like exploring game maps? Or is there actually a good game in here somewhere, because frankly so far it wasn't that good either. Some interesting things, but gameplay so far was really shallow. And that jungle is one of the ugliest game areas I've ever seen.

It's been way too long to help you out, but in some cases certain quests need to be performed first before you can proceed to another area. Do save every 10 minutes or so. Maybe a guide can help you out. There's a lot polish lacking of course and plenty of bugs, but that type of gameplay intrigues me, because you see all these hints of possibilities and only half of them work. I spent two years playing the third game to uncover all the secrets, as a lot of areas and subplots were left out of the game, but they still left it accessible somehow in its broken state. It's like exploring a ruin in decay where you can imagine what the original castle must have looked like. I'm probably giving it too much credit =)

Restarted the level and using different save slots now instead of quicksaving. While there's certainly things to like, I'm not yet convinced I should finish this game, I'll try a bit more before casting my final judgement though.
Aside from the dead-ends, it's the ugly jungle (while the earlier caves looked quite nice), infantile jokes, atrocious acting and sporadic crashes that are turning me off most.
On the other hand, the puzzles while straightforward and easy are a nice touch, a lot of thought has obviously gone into the interface and multiple control sets, some nice interactivity with the environment here and there, at some points the FMVs cut into the 2.5D world work quite well, and well I have the feeling the game is kind of ramping up to be an actual RPG at some point in the near future. All those random items I'm collecting will be good for something other than clogging my inventory, right?
